Meredith was groaning as she woke up
"Hey, little one" Arizona smiled
"Hi" Meredith whispered but started coughing
"Easy" Arizona whispered and handed Meredith a glass of water with a straw
"Hmm?" Meredith groaned
"We took you to the ICU. It's been 6 days since the last time you were awake" Arizona whispered
Meredith pointed at Arizona's mask
"It's because you're sick and your immune system is very weak with the chemo. You can't get any visitors under the age of 18" Arizona quietly told Meredith
"A-Amy?" Meredith whimpered
"She'll come by as soon as she can" Arizona smiled but got disturbed by Carolyn entering the room. Arizona excused herself and left
"Fwuffy?" Meredith whispered
"Fluffy can't come to the ICU so he's in Christopher's office waiting for you until you can go back to your own room
"No! I- Fwuwwy!" Meredith started sobbing
Carolyn really wanted to cuddle Meredith into her arms but this was the ICU, she just can't
Meredith broke out in a coughing fit because of all the crying. Carolyn softly rubbed her back and handed her some more water
"You're slowly getting better, Meredith. You'll be okay" Carolyn smiled "It's almost thanksgiving"
Meredith shrugged
"What do you usually do then?" Carolyn asked
"No" Meredith whispered
Carolyn decided to not ask much more and heard from Lara. Carolyn knew Meredith wasn't in the mood for talking. She was supposed to sleep and rest but the little girl seemed upset about her bear
Carolyn decided to break the rules and hold Meredith closer. Her fever broke down anyways and this girl needed someone, so Carolyn hugged Meredith just for a minute but that minute made it able for Meredith to fall asleep
Carolyn made sure the little girl was laying comfortable before she was on a search for her husband
"Dr Shepherd!" She yelled
"Hi" He smiled and the two of them entered an on call room
"I wanted to talk to you" Carolyn said as she rested her hand on Christopher's chest
"About what?" Christopher asked as he stroked her hair
"Meredith.. I- If she's able to go home during thanksgiving, I was thinking of letting her come over. She said she and Ellis never did anything. Christopher, we have to make her happy!" Carolyn sighed
"Hey, calm down.." Christopher cupped her face in his hands "That's a great idea, I'm sure she'll be happy"
"Should we tell her?" Carolyn asked
"Maybe it will give her something to look forward too" Christopher smiled but his pager started to go off
"They need you, go" Carolyn smiled and kissed his lips quickly "My shift ends in 10 minutes. I'm gonna tell Meredith"
Carolyn kept on her scrubs to go visit Meredith. The woman entered the ICU room and immediately felt bad for the little girl who was laying in the huge hospital bed. Carolyn waited for a while while stroking Meredith's head. There wasn't much hair left as bald spots took over, this reminded Carolyn that they should take a look at scarfs or hats to cover Meredith's head and keep her warm
She got pulled out of her thoughts when Meredith slowly opened her eyes
"-Lyn" Meredith smiled
"Hey sweetie" Carilyn smiled as her fingers brushed over Meredith's cheek "Guess what, I have a nice surprise for you"
"Me?"
"Yes, for you but only if you want" Carolyn said "Do you wanna come to our house for thanksgiving? If your treatment is going well enough, you could come home with us, we can watch a movie and be one big family" Carolyn smiled
"Wr- eally? Me?" Meredith asked confused as she rubbed her forehead
"Yes, you, silly" Carolyn smiled "Only if you want"
"Yea" Meredith smiled "Th-ank"
"You already met Amy, Derek and Mark but we have other kids too. Lizzy, Nancy and Kathleen"
"Uh- l-laugh?"
"Of course not! They will never laugh with you." Carolyn said sternly
"Kay" Meredith smiled
"Come here" Carolyn opened her arms and cuddled her close
"T-Thank" Meredith smiled
"How are you feeling, dear?" Carolyn asked
"Slweep" Meredith's speech slurred
"Sleep, sweetie. I'm gonna tell the kids about the plans for thanksgiving" Carolyn whispered
"Fwuffy?"
"You're going back to a normal room tomorrow, then you're gonna see Fluffy back" Carolyn smiled
"Kay" Meredith smiled
Carolyn laid Meredith back in the bed and kissed the little girl's head even if it was just Carolyn's mask touching Meredith, it gave both of them a safe feeling
Carolyn walked out of the room and threw the protective gear in the trash can before walking off to get changed

"We have something to tell you" Carolyn smiled as she sat down next to her kids on the ground after giving them their snacks
"What's wrong mom?"Kathleen, their oldest asked
"Your dad and I invited someone over for thanksgiving, it's a friend of Amelia" Carolyn started but got interrupted by Amelia
"Mommy, who?" Amelia frowned
"Meredith" Carolyn smiled back
"Can Meredith get out of the hospital?" She gasped and smiled
"Well the doctors will need to see next week but if she's doing okay, then she can come here and spend the night with us" Carolyn told them
"Mom, who's Meredith?" Nancy asked
"She's really nice!" Mark spoke up
"Meredith is a patient of you dad. She's Amy's age and they became friends" Carolyn answered her daughter's question
"A patient of dad? So she has cancer?" Kathleen asked
"She does. Brain cancer, stage 2.." Carolyn sighed
"What about her family?" Lizzy asked
"Her dad left her and- her mother's working outside of the city" Carolyn replied, not wanting to tell them the cruel truth
"Oh, okay then" Kathleen smiled
