Y/n's pov

As soon as the thing inside of her leg started moving more, El winced and clenched her teeth as she let out strained cries.

"El, El!" Mike yelled, looking down at her in worry. "El! El, are you okay?"

"El?" I asked as her fingernails dug into my hand. "El, we need you to answer us."

"El!" Mike exclaimed.

Before anyone could say anything else, she let out a blood-curdling scream that echoed through the entire mall. Her nails pressed down on the palm of my hand and I held onto her hand with both of mine, trying to comfort her and looking around at the group, scared. Eleven cried and everyone shared my expression.

"It's okay, El. Everything's going to be fine." I said in a soft and soothing voice, and she calmed down only for a second.

"What is that?" Erica asked in disgust, leaning closer to Eleven's leg.

"There's something in there." Mike said, his hand on El's shoulder.

"No!" El suddenly cried out in pain. I looked down at her shin to see that whatever was in there was now trying to get out.

"Jesus Christ." Dustin breathed.

"Keep her talking." Jonathan ordered in a rushed voice as he stood up. "Keep her awake, okay?"

I nodded to him, and looked back down to Eleven, who had tears streaming down her face.

"Jesus Christ." Dustin repeated as Jonathan began running in the opposite direction of us as fast as he could.

"Hey, hey, hey." I said to El, as calmly as I could. "Stay awake, alright? Stay awake."

"Let's get her on this side." Mike said, moving her slowly. "This side."

"Easy, easy, easy." Steve said as he, Dustin, Nancy, Mike and I moved her so that her head was on my lap with Mike right beside us, Dustin and Steve on my other side and Nancy beside Mike.

"You know, it's not actually that bad." Robin said, shifting her weight from one foot to the other to calm her nerves as El gripped my forearms tightly. "There was a... The goalie on my soccer team, Beth Wildfire, this other girl slid into her leg, and the whole bone came out of her knee, six inches or something-It was insane."

By the end of Robin's story, we were all staring at her in horror.

"Robin." Steve said, staring at her with his mouth slightly open.

"Yeah?" She asked.

"You're not helping." He said.

"I'm sorry..." Robin apologized as El continued to cry.

"Okay." Jonathan said as he came back from wherever he had gone. "All right, El? This is gonna hurt like hell, okay?"

"Okay." She sobbed, her nails digging deeper into my arms.

Jonathan shoved some latex gloves onto his hands. "Need you to stay real still."

He reached beside him and picked up a wooden spoon.

"Here." Jonathan handed Mike the spoon. "You're gonna want to bite down on this, okay?"

"Jesus Christ." Dustin muttered as Eleven opened her mouth and Mike put the spoon in. She bit down on it with a whimper.

"You're okay." I said gently, stroking her hair.

I lifted her head slightly and motioned Mike over with a jerk of my head. El's head rested on his lap and I got up and went over to Dustin.

I watched as Jonathan picked up a knife and held it just above her wound.

"Holy shit." Dustin said, his eyes wide. "Holy shit." I held onto his hand.

Jonathan glanced around unsurely, beads of sweat trickling down the sides of his face.

"Do it." Mike nodded, taking one of Elevens hands in his. Holding her tight, keeping her still and as calm as He could.

She was my best friend. I hated seeing her in pain.

Jonathan swallowed hard, and started lowering the knife to her skin.
