Seeing the good in the bad

It's been a month since I told Cora and Lilley they could stay. I would never admit this to them but they've been a good addition to the group. Well, Cora has been. I can't say the same about Lilley. She's probably the worst addition I could have added to the group. She has a lot of attitude and it gets on my last nerve. Miguel has had to restrain me from strangling the bitch multiple times. He's had to take me out into the woods multiple times so I don't commit a murder.

Since they have been a part of the group I have been ignoring Cora. I still hate her even though she's part of the group now. Hate is a strong word. I would say, strongly dislike. I barely ever give people second chances because usually if they screw up the first chance then they most likely will for the second one. Speaking of second chances since Miguel was there when I reunited with my parents; he thinks I should give them a second chance. His reasoning behind such an opinion is 'they could have changed'.

Every time he brings up my parents I always close myself off and become snappish towards him. I think he has gotten the message. He hasn't asked about them for the past couple of days. I have been training Danielle a little more infighting. I taught her how to shoot both a pistol and a shotgun. That did attract unwanted attention from the dead. I also taught her hand-to-hand combat. She's getting pretty good. "Okay, so this is how you flip someone over your shoulder." I grab Danielle under her arm and flip her over my shoulder making her land on the ground. I did it slowly so she wouldn't be in much pain when she falls to the ground.

Danielle groans as she rolls on the ground. "Okay, get up." I reach a hand out to her and she grabs it. "You have to put all your strength into flipping the person over." Danielle nods. "You also have to be fast so they don't see it coming. What I did with you, you could see it from a mile away. You have to be quick so you can make them winded enough to stay on the ground. I was easy on you." Danielle nods again.

I grab Danielle under the arm again firmly. "You have to grab like this and flip the person over your shoulder. It takes time to master." I let go of Danielle and back up a little. "Okay, flip me over your shoulder." Danielle hesitates but I give her a nod of reassurance. Danielle grabs me under the arm and flipped me over her shoulder. I landed hard on the ground.

I groan as my back hits the hard ground. And let out a little strangled gasp. "Oh my god, are you okay?" Danielle asks.

I nod and little and groan out a little 'uh-huh'. She definitely made me winded. It takes me a couple of seconds before I can breathe perfectly fine again. Once I got my breath back I laid my head on the ground and looked up at Danielle. "That was good." I nod at her. "You definitely don't need that much practice with it. How about we take a break hm?" I wave her off and she takes that as her cue to leave.

I lift my arm up and put it over my eyes. The sun is essentially bright today. It's also a very hot day. I sigh as my vision goes dark. I hear a little clear of someone's throat and move the arm from my face. I blink a couple of times to make my vision clear and not have black spots all over it. I look up into the face that disrupted my piece. "Hey, Miguel."

"What are you doing on the ground?" He asks with curiosity and amusement.

"I was doing another training session with Danielle," I explain. Miguel nods and reaches a hand out for me to grab. I obliged. Miguel helps me up off the ground and we start walking back to the tent. Specifically ours. "Honestly, I have no idea what ever came over me to start training Danielle."

"Maybe you didn't want her to die?" Miguel suggests with a sarcastic shrug. I sigh.

"That is what came over me." I roll my shoulders. "But I keep getting my ass handed to me," I tell him in exasperation.
