Building a Church

My soul is buried
In my father's Bible
Drowning in the ink
Of words he never read.
"Love thy neighbor"
Unless she's your daughter
Then drag her from heaven
Into your temple
A church with broken walls
She'll have to rebuild
Once she finds Jesus
And he doesn't know
You.
Now I dig out my soul
From my father's Bible
And I run from his temple
With broken walls
To build a new church
Somewhere in heaven
Where He knows
My name.
Because I feared God
Before I knew how to pray
And I feared Hell
Before I knew how to sin
And I wept for my purity
On my knees
Before anyone told me
It wasn't my fault.
