You stood in the doorway of the church in a standoff again Marko and his brothers. You've been planning your escape from them for weeks. You took the plunge and made a run for it during the day, but they still managed to track you down using your scent after nightfall.

"Just come home, babe, and I'll forgive you."

"No. I can't live like this anymore, Marko. My flight is tomorrow, and I'm leaving Santa Carla for good."

"And you honestly think you can get away from me?"

"I already have."

Marko giggled wheezily, his hazel greens flashing gold. "Nothing can keep us apart. I'll burn the world down if they try—starting with this church."
