the governor of the united world federation met with the leaders of this earth and began to negotiate, but it was essentially a take over the united world federation took over this world, with the defeat of the mimetic beasts, the federation then recolonized mars

several of the pilots from this world joined up with the fallen vanguard, and were allowed to attend vanguard academy once it was functioning again, as shukuyu also went to the academy to start training as well

"so what now" misato asked

"now i can finally step down and retire the world is at piece, and i am no longer required" i said, with a tired sigh

"for now" misato said

"i am not fighting against other humans, i damn well refuse so unless another alien race shows up, i think i'm done, i signed up to protect our race not kill it off" i said, she chuckled

"agreed, alright shinji, i assume you have already written up your resignation" she said

"i did that two years ago, and then the seraphim problem happened, it doesn't have date on it so i can just date it and be done" i said

and so he did shinji ikari officially resigned from the fallen vanguard, taking with him the post of first minister as he refused to choose a successor, the position was left unfilled, and the ministers, led by hachi and misato were left to hold the vanguard together

and shinji got six months of piece

shinji was answering a knock at his apartment door, he opened it to find a a rather familiar man

"saruwatari" i said

"the wife wanted to invited our new neighbor i didn't think it was you first minister ikari" he said

"former first minister, and just call me shinji, i resigned six months ago" i said

"i still owe you thanks for curing me of the virus, and your invitation into the academy" he said, i shrugged

"i know people like you, one of my most trusted pilots was similar though not quite the same, anyway if your wife is insistant on inviting me" i started

"she is" he said, they both knew how anna was

"time" i asked

"7:30" he said

"should i bring anything" i asked, he shook his head

"our welcome to you especially as a fellow veteran" he said

"i guess i'll be there"  i said, he nodded

"welcome neighbor" he said, i shrugged, as the man left and i closed the door

at seven-thirty shinji had arrived at their apartment, anna was clearly told that i was their neighbor, as was their roommate one mira ackerman, they noticed how silent he was through the meal, he rarely spoke

"quiet aren't you, you were much more confident at danner base" goh said, finally

"i was supreme commander, of military number in the hundreds of millions, i couldn't afford to look weak, if you ask any of my closer acquaintances who knew me before the vanguard you will learn i was never, the leader type, i wasn't even close to leader material i was just the only person my government trusted at the time do to extenuating circumstances, and then the vanguard got overly reliant on using my adriel as a symbol for moral, i couldn't be weak" i said

"why" mira asked

"adriel has only ever lost one battle, the first battle it participated in, and that can't even be counted as a loss, i lost that fight, adriel did not, we are two separate entities, and that is one of three times adriel awoke, each time ended the same way, in complete victory, the third time especially is why i was granted the post of commander of the organization that would evolve into the fallen vanguard" i explained, and so i dived into the story of NERV and what i had been through

"wow, yeah, people would be a fool not to trust the guy who literally had the power to end the world but didn't" goh said, he knew the boy wasn't lying, since the vanguard had released all data on the angels, and the BETA, and the NOVA, and then their conglomeration in the seraphim

"i wasn't expecting the post, nor did i want it, but like everything to do with NERV, i had little choice, so i became the leader that was needed, and i fought my second war, it's why i mostly stayed out of the mimetic beast conflict, i was tired by the point i didn't want to fight to begin with, but the real reason, is that i was started to enjoy it, and i feared that" i said

"why" anna asked

"because, i don't know what will happen if i lose myself piloting adriel, for all i know the unit could awaken again and i really wouldn't have control over what happens, and my entire worth is being the pilot of that EVA, knowing this i stepped down" i said

"i'm sorry" goh said, i shrugged

"i got my retirement and am content with my life, i am a very rich individual not even counting what i was being paid as the first minister of the fallen vanguard, i could be living like ekaterina should i wish, but i'm not that kind a guy, i like living modestly" i said, it was in that moment my phone starting ringing, i pulled it out and saw it was misato

"why do i suddenly have a bad feeling" i muttered, as i answered it

"please tell me this is a social call" i said
