[King's Landing - Red Keep, Black Cells]

Ned was asleep as he awaited to hear what his fate would be. Though he had a pretty good idea already.

A guard holding a torch walked by and kicked at him. Ned jerked awake, and when he did, the guards walked away. Ned looked around, trying to regain his bearings, and just as he did, he was in total darkness again.

Sansa, who had been summoned, proceeded into the throne room. A large host of people were present. Joffrey was sitting on the Iron Throne, and with him were Cersei, Morgana, The Hound, and the members of both the Kingsguard and the Small Council. Janos Slynt was standing in front of the Iron Throne. Grand Maestar Pycelle was reading from a scroll.

It is also the wish of His Grace that his loyal servant Janos Slynt, Commander of the City Watch..."

As Sansa made her way through the crowd, she greeted several people.

"Ser Aron." She greeted Ser Aron Santagar.

"...be at once raised to the rank of Lord...."

"Lord Gyles." Lord Gyles Rosby.

"...and granted the ancient seat of Harrenhal..."

Cersei spotted Sansa as she arrived and smirked. Joffrey, also seeing her arrived, grinned slightly.

"...and that his sons and grandsons shall hold this honor after him, until the end of time."

Janos bowed, several of the other figures in the room muttering as he moved away.

"In the place of the traitor Eddard Stark, it is the wish of his Grace that Tywin Lannister, Lord of Casterly Rock and Warden of the West, be appointed Hand of the King. Lastly, in these times of treason and turmoil, it is the view of the Council that the life and safety of King Joffrey be of paramount importance."

Pycelle rolled up his scroll as he finished reading.

"Ser Barristan Selmy." Cersei called, standing.

Barristan left the row of Kingsguard and stood before the throne. "Your Grace, I am yours to command." He knelt.

"Rise, Ser Barristan."

She was smirking again as Barristan stood.

"You may remove your helm."

Barristan hesitated before removing his helmet.

"You have served the Realm long and faithfully. Every man and woman in the Seven Kingdoms owes you thanks. But it is time to put aside your armor and your sword. It is time to rest and look back with pride on your many years of service.

More murmuring was heard from the others present while Barristan looked confused.

"Your Grace, the Kingsguard is a sworn brotherhood. Our vows are taken for life. Only death relieves us of our sacred trust."

"Whose death, Ser Barristan? Yours, or your king's?" Cersei asked.

Barristan looked insulted.

"You let my father die. You're too old to protect anybody."

"Your Grace -"

"The Council has determined that Ser Jaime Lannister will take your place as Lord Commander of the Kingsguard." Cersei announced.

Princess Morgana Baratheon stood in the grand throne room of King's Landing, she watched with growing unease as her brother, Joffrey, dismissed Ser Barristan Selmy, whom she considered the last true knight in the Red Keep. The veteran warrior had served their family from the timr she was born, and Morgana had alwys held him in high esteem. But Joffrey, blinded by his own arrogance and ambition, saw only a relic of a bygone era that needed to be cast aside.
