You say you can't give me the world

You say you can't give me the world
and all I asked for was a loved place.
I didn't request every star.
I didn't even want to.
We didn't even need fortune or fame.
I just wanted you to say that about me,
you felt the same.
Because that was enough for me.
You were enough.
And you kept trying to see
if you could decipher my bluff.
But there was no lie.
I meant what I said.
If you have no soulmates,
that means I am dead.
Preparing for the next life,
I guess maybe then.
When you say you can't give me the world,
I won't ask for in then.
And then after a while,
I'll learn that I had it all wrong.
That the pull to my real other half
would always be a lot more strong.
That there is a tug of war.
I keep waiting for you to call.
Until I figure out,
I'm not your soulmate after all.
At the same time a lover,
a lover of the past.
One that I haven't met yet.
Never saw a relationship last.
Someone else offered up a star.
He thought it was so nice
that she had traveled so far.
Except the star was giving to me.
Firmly attached to a red line.
If you can't give me the world,
I won't let you into mine!
Upon closer examination,
the star didn't shine.
He found it kind of odd,
she had stolen one of mine.
So I put up a sign,
"I'm missing my spark".
So the world I am used to
now seems so cold and dark.
And then out of nowhere,
I turned to find.
A lover of the past
who had returned to my mind.
And the blush of my cheeks
sent a fire down my spine.
He was the earth
and only you came close to that feeling.
Who will return this light of mine?
