Sunshine Dreams (28/1/24)

I strolled down the grassy hill,
Lavender and hydrangeas sprouting and blooming
In fertile soil,
Family by my side, forever by my side,
The sunlight winking on the ocean,
Nature's secrets twinkling in my eyes.

I arrived at the haven, now walking alone,
Recalling the place from a summer vacation,
A lifetime ago,
Bellflowers blossoming in ancient shade,
Long shadows cast by the beating summer sun,
Moss and lycan clinging to rock for centuries.

And the statue, expression solemn yet satisfied,
A silent symbol of hope and wishes that so rarely,
Came true,
People came and knelt,
Prayed to anonymous gods,
Staring into quiet eyes and breathing mystic air.

But, with no rational thought, and a secret smile,
As if finding an old friend from a distant childhood
Of laughter and tears,
I leapt. Into the statue's extended arms, I leapt.
Old cool stone against prickling hot skin,
And soft moss against gentle fingers.

With wind howling calmly overhead,
And peaceful waves crashing against the rocky shore,
Far, far below,
There was no place like here.
And I was transported suddenly into the arms of another,
A warm figure that I used to know.

He once lived in the same house as I did,
But then he moved, to the other side of town, down,
A road called Amnesia Lane.
He was now as clear as the sky above,
Sounded like peace, smelled like home,
And felt like love.

Twin hearts beating, twin souls soaring,
Lost from the physical borders of reality, we were,
Someplace better. Home.
We smiled - drops of sunshine in a sea of darkness,
Tears slipped, and were gone.
My wish had been granted.

Reality sank back; home vanished before my open eyes,
Yet my other home was at the top of the hill, gazing up,
At the clouds.
I strolled up the hill, one last glance back.
Was it all a dream?
What are dreams, if not fragments of forgotten lives?

The last thought streaming out of my conscious mind,
I left it as a golden puddle,
Nurturing the leaves and violet petals,
And turned and returned to my real home,
The place I belong.
