French Translations at the end of the Chapter
***************

"That's it over there!" I pointed toward a rather large building at the end of the street we were walking along.

"Thank God because I'm pretty sure I've been holding this thing upside down." Johan said referring to a map the size of Texas that we were using.

I took his hand as we made our way toward the building called Terrance Co. "You ready for this?"

He took a deep breath, filling his lungs to the bursting point, then released. "As ready as I'll ever be."

We reached the building and Johan paused for a second. I gave his hand a light squeeze and together we walked into the company. It was a classic office type building with a reception desk at the far left side and a ton of chairs in the waiting room. I assumed all the business happened on the next floors. We made our way to the reception desk and I smiled at the lady working. "Hi. We are looking for someone that works here." I said.

Instead of replying, the lady cocked her head and I silently cursed. We were in France. Most people don't speak English.

"Je suis désolé, je parle seulement français"

Thankfully, I learned that saying from French class but by the time I translated it in my head to English, Johan was responding.

"Je parle français. Je cherche une femme nommée Rosanna Mull. Pouvez-vous m'aider?"

The woman went on speaking rapid fire French and I only caught the words 'no' and 'boss' which didn't help. When she stopped talking, she moved from behind the desk and Johan followed.

"She says she never knew my mom personally but she did work here. She left this office last year. Apparently the CEO of this corporation is good friends with her so she might know where my mom is." Johan told me as we followed the receptionist. He looked so excited that I couldn't help but throw my arm over his shoulder and kiss his forehead.

The receptionist led us to an elevator and pushed the button for the top floor. She didn't enter the elevator with us but said something to Johan, smiled, and left. I looked at him waiting for a translation.

"She said she'll call the secretary on the top floor and tell her we are coming to meet with Mrs. Kaser who I assume is the boss."

The elevator went to the top with us in silence. I had taken his hand in mine. When the lift stopped and opened, we walked out to the most beautiful office floor I'd ever seen. It was brightly lit but had no electric lights on. The light came from the sun outside through the massive floor to ceiling windows.

There was white furniture spread around the room with red decorations all around and a big mahogany receptionist desk at the back of the room. We walked back to it and Johan told the lady working that we were trying to get in contact with Mrs. Kaser. The receptionist led us over to the right wall where the glass stopped and turned into one way mirrors with a big door in the center.
The lady- her name tag said Macy- knocked on the door. After some shuffling around, the door opened revealing a stout woman in maybe her late forties. She had a mess of curly short red hair around her face and her eyes were a vivid green. Those features made her look younger than she probably was.

"Bonjour Madame." My boyfriend said politely.

Bonjour!" She said in a chipper voice. "How can I help you?" The woman said in a heavy French accent.
