"Welcome home!"

As soon as Ted and I stepped off the plane we we're greeted by both of our families. It had been almost a year since we last visited home, what with Ted and I trying to get adjusted to our new like and jobs and whatnot.
The minute both my feet were off of the plane steps, I was bombarded by my little sisters.
Well, I wasn't so sure if I could call them little anymore. Anna and Ava already turned 18, Leanne was 16, Maxine was 15, and little Tina had just turned 12. They were growing like weeds.
The 5 of them squeezed me tightly and didn't let go until Jack pried them away.

"Welcome home son." He said, and patted me on the back.

"Thanks Dad." I gave him a smile but then my brows furrowed in confusion. "Where is mom?"

"She's waiting with Camry at the Penthouse."

"Why didn't they come?" Ted asked. He was standing a bit to the side with his arm thrown around Mayrse's shoulder.

"Camry caught a cold so she didn't want to leave the house. So Amie decided to stay back with her to take care of her."

Ever since the family dinner we had at Ted's house years ago our families has gotten super close and I couldn't be happier. When Ted and I got married, Camry and Peter immediately offered to fly my parents to Paris on their jet. The girls love telling me about it. They loved the ride.

After all our reuniting, we left the small airport and loaded up in the cars and headed home. It felt so nice to be back in New York. The air had warmed up a lot faster than it had in Paris so I had no more need for my winter jacket.

Amie was waiting at the door of the penthouse and the second we came in she threw her arms around Ted and I. "I missed you boys so much!" She exclaimed.

"We missed you too." I told her sincerely, and dropped a kiss on her head.

"Camry is in her bedroom. Go on, she's been waiting to see you."

The two of us headed up the stairs into Ted's mom's room. She was sitting in her bed with a box of tissues and a magazine in her lap, but her cold didn't stop the huge smile from spreading across her face at the sight of us. Oh Ted, Johan! You're back! Sorry I have to be in such a bad position!

"Mom, there's no reason to apologize, just rest up and get better." He sat on the edge of her bed and began speaking to her and I would have joined but just then my phone rang.

"Hello?" I answered. I stepped back out into the hall to take the call.

"Hello. My name is Missy Duvet, I am calling from the Stratsbourg Adoption Agency, is this Mr. Johan Baxter I'm speaking to?

My pulse shot up instantly. "Yes." I cleared my through. "Yes this is."

"Mr. Baxter, I'm here bringing good news. The baby girl you adopted, Laila, has arrived here. It will take a few days to prep her for adoption but you will receive a call the day before you can get her and the day of."

I couldn't help it. I dropped to my knees in the middle of the hallway. "Thank you, thank you Ms. Duvet."

"You're welcome. Have a nice day Mr. Baxter." She hung up the phone and I listened to the dial tone for a few seconds before putting my phone down. This was real, this was happening. Just that moment, Amie reached the top of the stairs and when she saw me there on the ground, she dashed over.

"Johan! What's the matter?"

"Mom," I said with fresh tears rolling down, "Laila arrived. We'll have her in the next couple days."

Amie's face broke into a large smile and mine did too. She pulled me up and did a little jig chanting: "I'm gonna be a grandma, I'm gonna be a grandma!" Before pausing. "Wait, aren't I too young to be a grandma?"

I broke into laughter, and gave my mom a big hug. Ted opened the door to his mom's room to investigate what was happening and when I told him the news he started crying about as much as I did. He pulled my close to him and kissed my cheeks and nose and forehead in his excitement and then started dancing with my mom (who hadn't stopped by the way)

Soon the whole house knew what was happening and although Ted and I would be leaving New York earlier than planned, we couldn't be happier. We were finally going to start our own family.
