PLEASE READ A/N's !! CONTAIN CRUCIAL INFORMATION/QUESTIONS/TOPICS

((A/N: This is about a quince so sorry if you're not Latinx, or just don't celebrate quinces, but this was a request so I have to be fair :) you can skip if you'd like but it's up to you

AND WARNING!! I do not celebrate quinces so I'm not really sure if everything is accurate, but yeah :/ . Sorry if it's not.

Due to the fact that I don't celebrate quinces, this'll be a little shorter/less detailed than the normal. Sorry about that too, I just don't really know what quinces really consist of. Sorry for being so uneducated in this :/ lol

Also. There's a part of the story that is based on race. I separated it because when black people read imagines it often says you put your hair in a ponytail or messy bun or something like that and I just wanted to make sure everybody felt welcome and comfy. So I did black and white. I'm NOT, by any means, discriminating. I just wanted everyone to be able to enjoy the story without really feeling out of place.

These A/N's were WAYYY too long, sorry about that, but imma shut up now. Enjoy!))

(( I greatly apologize lol but imma put up a a/n with this chapter {a separate part going up at the same time} so can you guys please read that too? It has a few SUPER IMPORTANT questions that I don't wanna put in this cuz I've already taken up a lot of time :) ))

It was finally the night of my quinceanera. I'd been waiting for this since I was little, going to my cousins' quinces, seeing them in beautiful dresses, the lights shimmering on their faces, and - best of all - all the dancing. I've loved dancing since I could walk- salsa, marimba, hip hop, tango, jazz, ballet; you name it, I'll try it.

I began looking for dresses when I turned fourteen. I'd been babysitting since I was twelve to pitch in since I knew how expensive my style was. Finally, exactly 17 days before my fifteenth birthday, I found the most beautiful dress and tabbed it. I continued looking, but nothing even came close to how gorgeous it was.

Ruby's abuela scoffed when I showed her the picture, claiming she could make it better, and it'd be free. According to her, they upcharged me. She returned to dress that I bought and made it herself.

She's got to be a witch because the dress she made was, in fact, more beautiful than the one from the apparel store. I thanked her a thousand times and took the dress home the second she finished, because, according to Ruby, 'nice things last about as I'd last in prison.'

Ruby took it upon himself to plan every last detail since my mom was away in Michigan for a business trip, leaving me with my grandmother.

"Abuelita, ¿puedes ayudarme a protegerme?" (Translated: Grandma, can you help me zip myself?) My grandmother only spoke Spanish and only knows minimal English. She was an immigrant who refused to lay down her roots for America. Which is why I admire and respect her so much- for everything she's been through to get here, while still keeping true to herself and her country.
