Gabriel Cross's POV:

The first thing I noticed were Pups shoes. He ran outside without wearing them. Damn! How did it get this bad?

All I needed was time, that's all! Just time for me to explain all this. How do I tell him that the man who came in search of him was different to the man who shares his bed now?

How do I tell Pup that I, Gabriel Cross is irrevocably in love with him?

How do I tell Pup that the man he met all those years ago was just as broken as him?

Unable to stop the heartache I was feeling at the very moment; I let my tears loose. Just then my phone rang and it was Aisling's name that flashed on screen.

"Hel-"

"Liege!" She didn't even wait for me to greet. "It's D. You need to come here ASAP!" She cut the call and next second I found myself opening the car door only to be stopped by David. His voice was warm yet firm, "Master Cross, let me drive you."

I was sure David and Ava would have seen Pup running out of the house. If they knew, they didn't pry; but David intercepting me from getting into the driver's seat; he must have known it was to get Pup.

"Crescent Moon." Was all I told him and he drove me to the destination quietly.

Everything was eerie tonight. The corridors these feet have walked through time immemorial, today it was scared to take the next step. Scared to open the door and find something irreversible. Yet, I opened the door for my Pup's sake; and what I found broke me into millions of pieces.

He was kneeling in front of Ethan baring his naked back. Each strike that was struck, my heart shattered. Before I could comprehend what was happening, my hand stopped Ethan's strike out of its own accord.

Silence. Even I could feel it. The Dom's eyes met mine, and whatever was casted in them, Ethan lowered the whip and stepped back knowing the man kneeling is mine.

Crouching in front of Pup, I hoped with all my heart to get some kind of reaction; and what I saw there made me want to wail. There was no reaction. His eyes were vacant. So vacant that all this pain hadn't even aroused him.

Akira!

Unable to stop myself I cupped his cheeks and Pup flinched under my touch and tried to move away. This hurt me. He kept fighting my touch and I had no option but to grab his face and make him look at me. Finally, I mouthed my safeword; 'Silence' and next second he fell forward into my arms.

Lifting him; I saw around. At this hour there weren't any audience, Ethan was long gone, and the only one who was watching us with concern was Aisling. Giving her a subtle nod and with Pup in my arms I walked away from there.

At the exit was Ethan standing next to the open door of my car.

"I called David for you." Eyeing the boy in my arms, the veteran Dominant smiled sadly, "He's special, isn't he? Take care of him." Patting my back he helped me with Pup and David drove us back home.

I was glad that Pup found Ethan to give him his needs. If I would trust someone back in Crescent Moon after Aisling, it would be Ethan. He had lost his lover in war. She was martyr. Having lost his beloved, Ethan was shattered until Aisling found him and took the man in. Knowing Ethan, the whips wouldn't scar Pup's back.

The concerned soul in my arms was quiet. The only evidence to let me know he was awake was him breathing on my neck.

The rollercoaster of emotions running course through me; I was unable to name the feeling. I was sad. I was angry. But above all I was hurt. Yes, I was hurt.
