Houston, Texas
Minnow's POV
I was bordering the line between insanity and seeming put together.
One I always seemed to sit on well. No one could tell because I kept it well under wraps but sometimes in moments where I felt like I couldn't tamper my anger or when I was overstimulated, that's when it was the most noticeable.
I stood in a floor-length sparkly evening gown, bare feet, curls pulled up into perfection, and a light hum buzzing through my body. I looked normal, a picture of perfection.
But I was also standing on the roof's ledge, my bare feet against the cool concrete.
A chill zipped down my spine and I welcomed it, looking down at the city's buildings all below. It was a 40-foot drop easy.
The night sky filled Houston with a soft deep blue, the lights reflecting off the emptiness it gave.
Though someone might look at me and think I was crazy or having an episode, I felt the calmest up here.
There was something about seeing everything so clearly from here that I loved. What most people found scary, I found exhilarating. Maybe it was the adrenaline talking. There was something about being in this dangerous position that made me feel free.
I needed to feel the wind breeze up my dress, the sweat on my palms, my heart thrumming both fast and soft at once.
I held my hands out at my sides, throwing my head back and closing my eyes. The light of the moon and the nearby building stayed trapped in my afterimage.
I could hear the sounds of life around me: cars honking, people speaking from a far distance, music from a club somewhere.
My thoughts finally ceased up here, my mind soaking up everything my senses provided.
Then I heard the sound of a metal door creaking open, someone's shoes running against the roof floor, and a voice yelled, "Minnow! What in hell are you doing up there?!"
