My great-great-great granddaddy came to this place
So young, I doubt he could've grown a beard on his face
Three months in the bottom of a boat in the summer of 1852
Left his home and his family, had to start all anew
He had a pioneer spirit, yeah, it grew and it grew
And somewhere within me, I pray I still have it too
Pioneer spirit brought my family to our home
Same pioneer spirit makes me want to roam
Pioneer spirit buried deep within me
All this pioneer spirit bursting to break free
Today marks the ending of a chapter in my life
I wish great-granddaddy could be here to give me some advice
An end and a beginning all rolled into one
How do I find the courage to stand up and run
There's nothing left to discover, but lots left to see
I just need to discover the pioneer spirit left in me
Pioneer spirit brought my family to our home
Same pioneer spirit makes me want to roam
Pioneer spirit buried deep within me
All this pioneer spirit bursting to break free
My past becomes my future, with adventures to be found
I just might circle the whole wide world around
Wanderlust is a feeling that can follow everywhere
Problem is, it takes you from all your other cares
Pioneer spirit running through my veins
It might just consume me if I don't give it the reins
My great-great-great-granddaddy came to this place
And, maybe, someday, I'll return home too
