On the Matter of Love

If hearts bestowed what love endowed
I might finally get what I am owed
For I give all the life I live
And loneliness feels hollow beneath my skin

We are all but sin fighting against the din
Yet the hand I hold will never win
For it leaves me cold instead of bold
And it's hard to find faith behind tears

A silent prayer, full of hope if I dare
That God returns with only a stare
No answer for me and that's all there will be
No divine intervention from above

A wish prayed cannot be stayed
A single word cannot my feelings slay
With nothing left, my heart is cleft
And thus are my feelings on the matter of love
