"Milani, I'm glad to see you're feeling better today" mr lakes said as he walked into my office holding a file in his hand
I left work early yesterday because I wasn't feeling good but after I slept it off, I felt better this morning so I came back today
"Here. I had a new client come in yesterday after you left. I need you to stay on top of this case as much as possible because she's paying good money to get this done as soon as possible"
"What is is?" I asked, grabbing the folder from him
"A custody case"
I sat the folder down on the desk and he turned to walk off but stopped and looked at me again
"Uhh.. can I ask you a question"
"Sure..."
"How is Karma?"
I looked up at him "... she's great" I simply answered before looking back down and I could hear him walk off.
I opened the folder to the new case, looking through it to see what was going on and saw that it was a grandparent tryina get full custody of their grandchild. As I continued to look through it my heard nearly stopped when I saw that it was bri and shy that were deemed the unfit parents
"Oh shit" I muttered, seeing all the shit that was said in the paperwork
The lady stated how Bri doesn't work and Shy sells drugs instead of keeping a steady job. She also had the nerve to say that they constantly neglect jr because they're too busy partying, smoking and drinking instead of being with jr when they're not arguing and fighting
"What the hell" I said to myself. Even though I might not be be friends with bri, one thing I know for a fact is they love the hell out of jr and this shit she was saying was a whole damn lie
I got up with the folder in my hand and walked out of my office, going to mr lakes' office. I could hear laughing and Victoria's voice on the other side of the door so I just knocked instead of walking in, hearing him clear his throat
"Come in"
I opened the door and walked in as Victoria picked up a stack of folders off of the desk and made her way out of the room
"Is everything okay Milani?"
"Umm.. I.. I can't work on this case. The one you just gave me" I told him as I walked up to his desk and handed him the folder back "the parents of the child. I know them personally"
"Well that's understandable" he told me as he grabbed the folder from me and I turned to walk off "you do know that you can't tell them anything you saw regarding this case, right? Legally"
"Yes sir.. but I'm gonna say this before I go and I don't mean any disrespect but.. I'm pretty positive you know the lengths a parent would go when they get mad that their child chose a different life path than what the parent planned" I told him before heading out of the office but stopped again
"And by how's karma going, I know you mean is she still with Benji and yes. They're still happily married, both working and taking care of my niece and nephews"
"Niece and nephews?" He asked and I nodded before walking out of the office, going back to mine

"Because it's actually good money and I like what I do.. it's just...mr lakes"
