I took a seat over by the mini fridge so I wouldn't be in the way when clients started showing up. Eric took his set behind the desk and was busying himself with something on the computer. Pulling out my phone I start reading where I had left off on my work in progress. I have always loved to write; it helped me through the Derrick years. Even after that whole thing blew up I kept writing so when I found an app that would let you upload as you go I got excited. My main male characters were pretty much always bullies. I try to use my writing as a coping mechanism for the way Derrick treated me and it doesn't hurt that most woman like to read about the asshole that causes them to get wet just from their bullshit, and it didn't hurt that when they both came unhinged and the fireworks explode it was hot as hell. I couldn't lie I also found all the fighting appealing even though that wasn't what happened with me and Derrick. I am so into my writing that I don't hear my name being called. "Reality check. Is she ok; she hasn't blinked in a few minutes." A voice says and I blink; reality setting back in. " What, yeah I'm fine." I say standing up looking to Tess who is standing next to Eric. The waiting area that was empty was now half full. God how long had I been sitting here lost in my own world? " Now that you're back from where ever you were; follow me to my office so we can go over some things that I feel that need to be addressed." Mac says as he turns down the hall causing me to have to jog to catch up to him. His office is at the end of the hall on the right. "First thing is you always knock on this door; I don't care if it is standing wide open or I have called you back here. You still need to knock." I nod as Mac walks into the office. His office is pretty big and as I look around the room I think that it fits him. There a pictures of wolves on the walls, a big black leather couch that matches the chairs in front of the desk. The bookcases behind his desk are full of different books and my fingers itch to touch them. I notice that he has a bathroom in his office. Well I guess that when you're the boss you can have what ever you want. "Shut the door." Mac says studying something on his desk. Once the door is shut I take a seat in front of his desk and silently wait for him to start talking; only he doesn't and I start to feel uneasy with the silence. I have never been good with silence and the silence in this room was starting to drive me crazy. "You ok over there?" Mac looks like he is trying to figure out if I am going to bolt out of the room or not. "Sorry I um.. I'm just a bit nervous." I shrug trying to look like I am ok. " No need to be nervous; you will do just fine. Kris said that you helped her out a few times and that you had no problems other than that mouth of yours." He pauses for a moment looking at his phone that just beeped. " I want you to try and be nice to the customers here. This is a new start for all of us. I'm not saying don't be yourself; I am just saying don't go flipping the bird in the first couple of weeks of being here. Oh and one big thing, Keep your hands to yourself please." He smiled and I swear it was the nicest smile that I had seen on a man in a while. " Eric will be showing you how our system works, it's a little different than the one that Kris had at her shop." Once Mac turns his attention back to his phone I get up and head for the front of the shop, but Mac stops me before I get to the door. " I am sorry about the other day. I shouldn't have done what I did and being mad at the last renters isn't an excuse at all." He chews on his bottom lip as a dark look crosses his face but says nothing more on the subject.
The system really wasn't an issue but the way the screen was set up on the computer bugged me to no end. Everything that was shop related, client folders and other random things were just thrown together. I was going to have to fix it or I was going to go crazy. The phone rang off the hook all morning, so I didn't have much time to organize the home screen. Around 12:30 Mac stopped in front of the desk. "You can go take you lunch break now." He looked a bit tense but said nothing else; he just stood there looking at me. " If you're cool with it can I organize this home screen? Who ever tossed everything together should be hit in the balls." A pained expression crosses his face. " Your house must look like a disaster area doesn't it?" I say turning in my chair so I am facing him when he walks around to my side of the desk. "My house is just fine; you can reorganize the home screen if you wish but you wont be touching any balls around here." I laugh at the guarded look on his face. "who's touching balls; I want in on that action." Eric says walking up behind Mac. "No one is touching any balls around here." Mac says moving his hands to guard the balls in question, but he laughed a little. " I was telling him whoever lumped everything together on the home screen should be hit in the balls." I say turning back to face the screen. " Well Mac, with those shit kickers that she's wearing you can say goodbye to your balls." Eric barks with laughter. I look over my shoulder " uh huh." I say in an I knew it tone but I say nothing else on the matter. After working for what seemed like hours on fixing the mess that Mac had made of all the folders I finally felt like it was well organized. Leaning back in the chair and stretching my arms over my head I feel something hard underneath my fingers. I damn near fall out of the chair when I realize that it was Mac who had been standing there. How long had he been there? " I'm sorry I didn't know that you were standing there." I say, grabbing the desk before I could fall over. " Didn't I tell you to go to lunch? I don't like it when my employees don't obey me." He says in a gruff tone. Something about the way he said the word "Obey." Did something weird to my stomach but I shook it off. I look at him for a moment confused because he told me I could fix the mess that he made with the folders. " I assumed that when you said that I could organize the mess on the computer that I could do it now." I say as I point over my shoulder to the computer. He stands there shaking his head. " Didn't anyone ever tell you that you shouldn't assume because it makes an ass out of you and me." He has a small tic in his jaw. Was he really serious right now. I haven't been here a whole day and I already want to punch this asshole in the face. "Ok duly noted; don't do anything when the boss as already told you to do something else." I say in a sarcastic tone. Before Mac can say anything the bell over the door dings and we both look up to see a pair of girls. "Welcome to Forever Ink. What can we do for you today?" I say to the pair. "We would like to get our bellybuttons pierced." The girls look like they could barley be eighteen. The tall blonde is wearing a blue jean mini skirt and a crop top. The brunette is a bit shorter and is in all black, Her skirt is short but not really a mini, tube top, fishnets and a pair of boots. "I have a form for y'all to fill out and I will need your I.Ds so I can get a copy for our system." I say as I reach for the forms that they will need to fill out. "Why would you need our I.Ds? The brunette says cutting her eyes towards the blond. I had already figured that they weren't old enough. Mac hasn't spoken up yet so I guess I am doing things to his liking. " We copy the I.Ds into the system so the next time you decide to come in you can bypass the paperwork." I answer as I place the forms on the desk. "Ok but what if we don't live near here and wont be coming back for a long while?" The blonde sounds like she is going to start throwing a fit. I take a deep breath before I say something that is going to get me in trouble on my first day. "I'm still going to need those I.Ds to verify that y'all are of age because if you're underage we will need a parent or guardian to be here with something that proves that they are a parent or guardian." I glance over to see the corner of Macs mouth tip up. "Ok just hear me out we both turn eighteen in a week. Can't you just let us slide? The blonde says but she's not looking a me; she is looking at Mac. I shake my head in disbelief at this child. "No, we could get into serious trouble and that is not a chance we are willing to take. I think it is time for y'all to leave." I say trying to keep my attitude under control. The pure gal of this teenage girl who thinks that she can come in here a bat her fake eyelashes and get what she wants. The brunette starts to walk to the door when the blonde opens her mouth again. "I wasn't talking to you; I was talking to him." She says while giving me a look that said she would rather spit on me rather than talk to me. "Come on Tammy, you tried it didn't work. Lets go before you get into trouble." The other girl says while holding the door open. Tammy turns her glare on her friend and I feel sorry for her. "OH shut it Cami; You were to chicken shit to come in the first place. Stop being a little bitch for once." She hissed. I started to move around the counter but Mac stopped me with a hand on my hip, shaking his head and gave me a look that said not to try him. So I settled for words instead. "Tammy is it? You were told no and batting those fake eyelashes of yours to a man that knows better isn't going to help you. So I suggest you do as your friend says and leave before I call the cops and have you removed from the property." Then I turned to look at the other girl. " I would advise you to get a better friend that isn't going to get mad at you for not wanting to get into trouble. Cami shakes her head and leaves through the door causing Tammy to huff and stomp off yelling something about Cami being her ride and not to leave her. Neither Mac or I had moved from our spots. I looked down at his hand that still sat on my hip then looked up at him. "Good job Beth, now go eat." He says as he turns and walks towards his office.
I wrote while I ate lunch and normally I would sit with my back against a wall so no one could read over my shoulder, but I was the only person in here at the moment since I worked through my actual lunch time. The bully that I was writing about was trying to get the girl to admit that she wanted him by pinning her against the side of a building with his body and she was trying to get him to admit that he actually cared for her. The more I wrote the more I started to wiggle in my seat and the moment I heard the door open I tossed my phone on the table. " I told you not to be writing at work because you were going to cause yourself some problems that you can't fix while here." The sound of Tess's laughter caused me to relax. Apparently she heard about the two girls from earlier and wanted to come make sure that I was ok. " Tess I promise that I am fine; It wasn't too bad at all and I wasn't alone so." I say picking at the loose threads on my pants. I chewed my lip for a second before speaking again. " Hey I think that I am going to be ok here. I honestly think this is where I will find my footing again." I don't have to look up to know that my friend is looking at me. I don't need to tell her that I feel like a burden sometimes or that I am grateful that she is still by my side. "Hey Mac is looking for you; he said that he wants to see you in his office before you go back to the front desk." Eric says from the door way of the break room. I look up at Tess and shrug because I haven't the slightest clue what he wants. "Well I better get going then, don't want to keep the boss waiting." I say as I gather my things and dispose of my trash.
I knock and wait for him to tell me to enter the room just as he had said to do this morning, but when I don't get an answer I knock again this time his aggravated voice filters through the door. "Come in." I slowly open the door not sure if this has anything to do with the girls that were in here earlier or something else. "You wanted to see me?" I ask. When he points to the chair that I had sat in this morning I quickly take a seat and wait for him to speak. He looks tired and annoyed. " You did good this morning." He says and I immediately begin to relax and let out the breath that I had been holding. "You seem relieved; what did you think that I called you in here for?" I chew on my lip and fidget in my seat a bit. "Well honestly I thought maybe I was in a little trouble since I started to walk around the desk." I look down at my boots; I don't want to see whatever look is on his face. So when he let out a small laugh my eyes shot up to met his. "What's so funny?" I ask in a shocked tone. "If you think that you getting upset and walking around the desk to tell a teenager to get out of the shop was enough to make me made then we're in for a wild ride here." Mac leans back, placing his hands behind his head causing his muscles to flex. My eyes must have lingered a bit to long. "Hey my eyes are up here." Mac chuckles and I mentally kick myself for ogling the boss so openly. " Sorry I zone out again. Forgive me but I remember you getting mad the other day because I asked you one little question." I say raising a brow. The look that passes over his face is a dark one and I would be lying if I said it wasn't a hot look at all. Mac slowly rises from his seat and I quickly leave mine trying to make it to the door. Mac is faster than I and he beats me to the door cutting off my escape. He has a predatory look in his eyes and my brain yells for me to run but other parts of me wants to stay and see what happens. I start walking backwards as he stalks closer to me; my heart is racing but I'm not scared. "If I remember correctly you weren't just asking me a small question; you were being a brat and poked me." He says as his eyes search my face for any signs of fear. He doesn't speak again until I have backed into the bookcase. "Even after I warned you not to poke me, you still did more than once, then you tried to push me as if you were bigger than me little girl." His breathing changed as he placed his hands on either side of me to prevent me from escaping him. "I'm not a little girl and I wasn't the only one getting handsy was I." I say dropping my eyes to where his tongue darted out to lick his bottom lip slowly. His chuckle was so deep it sounded like a growl which had arousal flooding my core. "Do you know what I should have done besides pin you against that wall?" He whispered into my ear causing a shiver to run through me. My breathe caught in my throat as his hand came up to cup my face. "W..what?" It was the only thing I could manage to say with out making a fool out of myself. " I should have bent you over the sink and turned that ass of yours bright red, then I." Mac stopped talking and quickly backed a way as a knock sounded from the other side of the door. I looked at Mac wide eyed, trying to catch my breath unsure of what to do.
