Taking a deep sigh, I close my laptop for the night

Taking a deep sigh, I close my laptop for the night. It's been a long day of talking to business partners and dealing with ignorance. All in a day's work being a mafia don.

I pour myself a glass of whiskey to relax. As I am about to leave my office, I am interrupted by my personal phone ringing.

Not bothering to check who it is as everyone in the mafia knows to only call my work phone, I answer without hesitation.

"Lorenzo Moretti speaking." I say.

"Hello, this is Sarah Gale from the Chicago Police Department." A feminine voice answers.

Chicago? I am not currently doing any business in Chicago. I swear to god if Luca or the twins got into any trouble there, they will be dealing with a severe punishment.

"May I ask what the purpose of this call is?" I grunt out impatiently.

I was seriously done for the day. Why do these calls always happen when I am turning in for the night? Plus, isn't it like 3:00 AM central time?

"Yes, it seems we have your sibling Parker Ryan here." she answers.

"I do not know of a Parker Ryan and they are certainly not my sibling." I spit.

I think I would be well aware if I had another sibling. Mother left give or take twelve years ago. Honestly, this lady is being ridiculous. It's probably another ploy to try and get money, wouldn't be the first time.

"We took a DNA test and the results are crystal clear, sir. The stepfather has died and they need a new home. If you do not want to take guardianship, foster care is always an option." Sarah responds.

"Who are the biological parents?" I ask.

If this sibling is fully related to me, of course I am going to take them in. Family means everything, I would never deny that of a blood relative.

"Franco Moretti and Maria Moretti" The women firmly answers.

Merda. Those are my parents. I have another brother. Was five boys not enough?

"Okay, I'll take guardianship." I instantly respond.

"Perfect! I will see you soon." Sarah responds chiperly.

I hang up without another word.

Well, I did not expect my night to end like this. I have another brother, Parker. Although Parker could be a girls name as it is gender neutral, there is simply no way it could be a girl. The Moretti's have tried for generations to have a girl, a mafia princess, but no such luck. Honestly, I wish it were a girl, heaven knows we have enough boys in this house.

Letting out an exasperated sigh, I leave my office.

I guess it's time to inform my fratelli.

---

Standing in front of all my brothers, I glance around the room seeing them in various positions. Luca is half asleep on the couch. Not surprising. The twins, Bruno and Ares are conversing next to his sleeping figure. Unsurprisingly, Matteo is sitting in an armchair resting his elbows on his knees full attention on his phone. He's almost as much of a workaholic as I am.

Clearing my throat, all of their attention is on me. Although, I do notice Bruno elbowing Luca awake, I don't address it. We have far more important matters to attend to than my youngest brothers blatant disrespect.

"I just received a rather interesting call from the Chicago police department." I pause, choosing my next words carefully.

"It seems as though our mother was pregnant when she left us." I state pinching the bridge of my nose before continuing.

"We have another brother, his name is Parker. He will be moving in with us as his stepfather died tonight." I finish.

A few moments of silence pass as everyone takes the shocking information in. Looking around the room, I see shock evident on everyone's faces. They need to work on hiding their emotions.

Finally, Bruno speaks up.

"How old is he?" He questions.

"I am not sure, I didn't ask. He can't be more than twelve." I answer.

Mother left twelve years ago, so the timing only makes sense. If Parker shares the same mother and father as us, he must be around eleven.

"Why would mother keep him from us?" Luca asks.

I know Luca has always hated being the youngest. He always wanted a younger sibling to boss around. It does not help that he was only six when mother left. I know he wishes to of had more time with her.

"That I do not know." I answer.

There are many questionable decisions our mother made, I cannot begin to try and understand them. Nonetheless, when she was here, she was an amazing mother to all of us.

More silence ensues as everyone is deep in thought.

"I will be leaving shortly for Chicago and Matteo will be accompanying me. Ares, Bruno, Luca I want you to set up a guest bedroom and put some of your smaller clothes in there." I order.

I expect Parker won't have much with him, with this incident being so sudden. Hopefully some of their old clothes will fit him.

They all nod in response before the younger three leave to complete their task.

I turn to Matteo, "Ready to meet our youngest and hopefully final brother?"

Don't get me wrong, I love all my brothers. However, there comes a time when enough is enough. I cannot be raising children while running a mafia. Though Luca is eighteen, he is still a child in my eyes. Having an eleven year old running about will be a challenge.

"Yeah, let's go." Matteo responds.

With that, we both head out the front door to the already awaiting car.
