May 30-Smallville, Kansas

You were sleeping in the front seat when Clark tapped you on the shoulder and woke you up.

"Are we here?"

"Yeah. Just pulled in."

You got the kids out while he got the bags. You walked up to the little yellow house and knocked on the door.

"Coming!"

She opened the door and her eyes widened when she saw you.

"Hi, Mom."

"What are you doing here?"

"We wanted to check on you."

"You guys didn't have to come all the way out here."

"We wanted to."

You went into the house and gave her a hug.

"Hey, sweetie."

"How are you, Martha?"

"I'm trying to hold on."

"Maw-Maw!" The boys yelled.

"Hi, babies!"

They gave her a big hug while you and Clark took the bags upstairs.

"You've been driving for the past sixteen hours. You should rest." You told Clark.

"I'm fine."

"Even Superman needs to rest, babe."

"I'm okay." He placed his hands on your shoulders and kissed your forehead. "I promise."

"Okay."

You went back downstairs and joined your family on the couch.

"Hey, buddy." Clark said as he pet Krypto.

"The poor baby was the one who found Jonathan." Martha told you.

"Poor guy."

While you were talking in the living room, the doorbell rang.

"I got it." You said as you got up.

You opened the door and saw a woman holding a tuber ware container.

"Hi."

"Hi."

"I'm just dropping off a pie for Martha. It's lemon meringue."

You took the pie and smiled at her.

"Thank you. That's very sweet of you."

"Lana?" Clark said as he joined you in the doorway.

"Clark! Hi!"

"Wow! How long has it been?"

"Seven years at least."

"Time flies." He looked at you and noticed your facial expression. "Sorry. Amber, Lana Lang. Lana, this is my wife, Amber."

"Oh, yes! I've heard about you from Martha. I was out of town the week of your wedding."

"Lana and I went to school together."

"It's so nice to meet you." She smiled.

"It's nice to meet you, too."

"I'm sorry about your dad."

"Thank you. I'm sorry about Daniel."

"Thanks. It's been tough, I'm not going to lie."

"I can imagine." He noticed your confused look and clarified the conversation. "Daniel was Lana's husband."

"Oh, wow. I'm so sorry."

"Thank you. Well, I should get out of your hair. Give Martha and Conner my condolences."

"We will. Thanks for stopping by."

"And thanks for the pie."

"I'll see you guys later."

You closed the door and went back into the house.

"Ma, Lana brought a pie."

"Oh, that's nice of her."

You heard the back door open and close followed by loud footsteps.

"I got the groceries, Ma!"

"Uncle Conner!" The boys exclaimed.

You went into the kitchen where he was setting the bags down. The boys jumped on him and tightly embraced him.

"There's my favorite boys!"

"We missed you!"

"I missed you, too!"

"Look!" Jon said. "I lost another tooth!"

"Did you swallow it this time?"

"Nope!"

"Now that's what I like to hear!"

"Hey, Conner." Clark said as he hugged his brother.

"Hey, man."

"You okay?"

"For the most part."

He came over to you and wrapped his arms around you.

"Hey."

"How've you been, Amber?"

"Good."

"I'm glad."

"I'm sure you all are starving." Martha said. "How about I get started on lunch?"

"I'll help." You told her.

The boys went into the backyard while you and Martha began cooking.

"How was the drive up here?"

"Long as usual. But I don't mind."

"I just feel bad that you guys came all the way up here."

"Martha, there's no reason to feel bad. We're family. It's what we do."

"You're a sweetheart."

You cut up some vegetables as she took the pie out of the fridge.

"Maybe we can eat Lana's pie for dessert."

"Sounds like a plan."

"Great!"

"Who is Lana, by the way?"

"She and Clark went to school together. They actually dated until she met her husband."

"Oh. Well, she seems nice."

"Oh, yeah. She always was a sweet girl. She's got a young daughter. Just adorable."

You spent the rest of the day catching up with your family, and making funeral plans. Despite the circumstances, you were happy to be with them.
