July 4-Smallville, Kansas

"Come on, Jon." Clark coached his son. "You can do it."

Jon ran towards the barn and made his way back. He smiled at his dad.

"Did I do it?"

"Not exactly."

"Come on." Zeeke said to his brother. "I'll chase you."

The boy began to run as you sat on the porch steps next to Clark.

"Go easy on him. He's still young, and he's only half  Kryptonian. It may take longer."

"I know. But it's been three weeks and all he's done is blow off a barn door."

"Oh, that's all?" Martha said as she brought out a pitcher of lemonade. "I don't exactly like my barn door being blown off. Again."

"That was years ago, Ma."

"I remember it like it was yesterday."

"Maybe it was just a one time thing, babe." You said. "Like you said, it's been three weeks."

"I don't know. Maybe you're right."

"Of course I am."

He wrapped his arm around you and kissed your cheek.

"Come on. We've got a party to start getting ready for." Martha said.

"It's just a barbecue, right?"

"Yeah. Just some close friends." Clark smiled.

"You said it would just be some close friends."

"It is."

"Babe, half the town is in our yard."

"And they're all close friends!"

"I will never understand southern people."

"Clark, I need you to get on the grill!" Martha called from the kitchen.

"Duty calls." He kissed you on the cheek before heading over to the grill with Conner.

"Amber!"

"Hey, Lana!"

You two hugged for a brief second before letting go.

"Great party. Thanks for hosting."

"Thanks for coming."

"I would never miss a Kent Fourth of July party. Besides, Lily has been begging to hang out with your boys again. Especially Zeeke."

"They're the same way. I'm just glad they made some friends here."

"Me too. When we moved back to Smallville, Lily had to leave all her friends behind in Wichita."

"You're so strong."

"Thanks, Amber. You're a real sweetheart. I've loved the Kents for decades, so I'm glad you're a part of the family."

"Me too."

"Food's ready!"

You grabbed a plate and waited in line until you saw Clark.

"Well aren't you sexy?" You joked, pointing to his 'kiss the cook' apron.

"Isn't that why you married me?"

"One of many reasons."

Everyone went back to their owns houses to watch the fireworks. Your family sat in the yard on the grass and waited for it to start.

"Are you excited?" Clark asked the kids.

"Yeah!"

"Where's Shelby?" Zeeke asked.

"Dogs don't really like fireworks."Martha explained. "Especially super dogs."

"There's a red one!" You pointed out.

"Blue and yellow!" Jon smiled. "Like Daddy!"

Kara held her head in her hands and rocked back and forth.

"Kara?" Conner said.

"Kara, what's wrong?"

"It's so loud, Kal."

"Let's get you inside."

"No! I can't control it!" She moved her hands and let two read beams shoot from her eyes onto the ground. "I'm sorry!"

"I can fix it!" Jon yelled as he ran towards the fire.

"Jon, no!"

He ran in front of it and inhaled deeply  before blowing out the flame with cold air. As the embers disappeared, all you saw was a large patch of burnt grass. You grabbed him and held him tightly.

"Are you okay?"

"I'm fine! Did you see me, Mommy?"

"I think we should go inside." Clark said.

You all sat in the living room in silence trying to calm down. Kara was the first to speak.

"I'm so sorry. I don't know what happened. I just heard those loud noises and I lost it."

"It happened to me too." Clark said. "When I was around Jon's age."

"Me too." Conner smiled as he placed a hand on her shoulder. "Don't feel bad. You're just not used to it."

"I should've remembered how you guys got with fireworks." Martha said. "I'm sorry."

"We all forgot, Ma. It's no one's fault."

"I'm just glad Jon was there to save the day."

"I blew it out like my birthday candles!"

"What you did was very brave, son. We are so proud of you."

"We love you, Jon." You smiled as you gave him a kiss.
