"here's your drink," the bartender says to sapnap, interrupting our staring contest. both of us snap our heads towards the drink, then at the bartender.

"sorry, i didn't order this, i think you have the wrong person," sapnap says, pushing the small shot glass away from himself.

"oh right, that red head over there got it for you." the bartender points to our right and that red head from the party is sitting a couple seats away, waving and smiling seductively as sapnap looks at her.

my eyes narrow at her, though i'm not even sure she can see me, as an unfamiliar feeling rushes through my chest.

"i don't even know who that is," sapnap says. "so, where were-"

without thinking, i grab the shot glass. sapnap's head quickly swivels around to see what i'm doing as i tilt my head back and take the shot. i swallow it as quickly as possible, the burning drink i recognize as fireball feeling like gasoline as it goes down. sapnap lets out a quiet whistle.

"damn," he whispers.

i shake my head as i wince, feeling my cheeks go hot and the weight from my limbs slowly start to disappear.

"is there a reason you-"

"can we get another one of those?" i call to the bartender, who's now on the opposite side of the bar. he nods his head and directs another bartender to pour a shot of fireball while he takes someone else's drink order.

"what are you doing?" sapnap asks as he watches me take the second shot, the sobering feeling i felt earlier starting to going away.

"wanna take one with me?" i ask, ignoring his question. he blinks a couple of times, and his mouth moves but no words come out.

"two more!" i shout to no bartender in particular.

"cassia-"

the two glasses are pushed in front of us, and i grab one.

"what?" i ask. "you on a no-drinking rule tonight?"

"well, no, i'm just supposed to be designated driver. so i can't go crazy."

i snort.

"pussy," i say as the third shot burns just as badly as the first two. i reach for the other glass, but sapnap grabs it quicker and takes it a lot easier than me.

"you wanna call me that again?" he asks, a challenging gleam in his eyes.

i look over his shoulder, and the red head is still there, burning holes into the back of his head. she looks a mix of confused and shocked while still trying to be seductive, and it's not a good look.

"you wanna dance?" i suddenly blurt out, taking a couple steps away from the bar.

"excuse me?" sapnap asks.

"dance. you know, on the dance floor. wanna do it?"

"what's gotten into you tonight?"

"a little bit of liquid courage. so?"

sapnap glances over at the dance floor, still completely packed with people. he then turns his head to look at the girl staring at him, then focuses back on me.

"let's go."

i grab his arm and practically drag him to the dance floor, feeling a lot more light and giddy than i did earlier. is it the alcohol talking? or..?

we weave our way through the dance floor and find a slightly less packed area towards the center. the strobe lights feel even brighter than they did earlier and i can feel the music vibrations traveling through my body. i take a deep breath and turn towards sapnap, moving my hand down his bicep, down his forearm, down his wrist, and eventually we're hand-in-hand. i put my other hand in his, and his warm hand encapsulates mine pretty perfectly.
