Reply Entry #10

Dear Hazel,

I don't really know how to reply. Sure, I'm happy you had your first date with Trent, but I don't trust him.

I know I said I couldn't tell you why, but I don't think it would actually do any harm. So he kind of attacked me just before I found your diary. I ran away and hid in the Janitor's closet. Then voila, my reply notebook was invented.

Maybe I should thank Trent. Because if it wasn't for his spontaneous flying fists, I might never have had the chance to find you. Even if I haven't found you yet.

I will.

But even so, my gut tells me to hate the guy. I'm not sorry for it either. Doesn't he just seem too charming to you?

You had no reason to be anxious, Hazel, I bet the date went as smooth as butter.

If it didn't, then it's not your fault. It's the douche's.

Bye,

Prince Charming-est xx

I'm guessing he doesn't like Trent then.

Neither do you, remember?

He is a douche, Prince Charming wasn't wrong about that.

I stare at the open white book in my hands and run my index finger over the ink. I find myself wondering again who he is. But also, why he wrote these letters to a stranger?

A knock at my bedroom door startles me and I quickly shove the notebook under my bed. Once it's completely hidden, I yell out, "Come in!"

Anxious, I wait as the door handle turns and - what if it's some creep? Or worse, a murderer?

But then, when the door is completely open and the suspect waltzes in, I breathe out in relief.

"Hunter?" I groan and glare at his stupidly perfect face, "I thought you were- ugh, never mind."

Hunter grins widely, sitting next to me on the carpet before poking my ribs with his finger. I squeal and my glare turns even harsher.

"You thought I was who?"

Looking away, I just stare at the wall and ignore him.

"Hazel, who?" Dragging out the 'who', he resembles a little kid, and I almost laugh before stopping myself. I refuse to give him the satisfaction.

"You'll laugh."

"I promise I won't" Hunter says, presenting his pinky out in front of my face, "Pinky promise, just like earlier, Hazy-Bear."

Sighing, I link my littlest finger through his and look him dead in the eyes without pulling away, "I thought you were going to be some creepy guy or murderer. I don't know, it was just a sudden thought that came as soon as I invited you in."
