Chapter 14
"WHAT DO YOU mean you won't make it?" Lance burst while holding his phone. He was on a call with Xavier and he has the phone call on loudspeaker so we could hear their conversation.
"I just woke up, kid, I made a lot of shits." He meant about the requirements in school. "And I have to go to STU again today so go ahead without me." Rinig na rinig ko ang pagiging antok sa boses ni Xavier. Mabuti na lamang at mukhang hindi naman masama ang pagkakagising niya, kung hindi ay baka nasigawan na kaming lahat.
Naalala ko noong pinuntahan namin siyang lahat at sobrang busy nito, pinalayas kami. Hanggang sa makauwi, hindi kami pinansin. Tsaka niya lamang kami pinansin noong tapos na siya sa lahat ng ginagawa niya. Nakakatakot si Xavier sa totoo lang. Pero mabait naman siya, moody lang.
"Even on Saturday?" Hindi makapaniwalang tanong ni Clifford.
Xavier grunted. Narinig ko pa ang pagkaluskos mula sa kabilang linya. "Yes, even on Saturday. So please let me sleep for a while. Ayokong magalit, umagang-umaga. I'll catch up with all of you soon. Not now." Then he already hung up.
Clifford and Lance glanced at me and Scarlett. They shrugged, as if to let us know that they can't convince Xavier to go with us today. We decided to have a road trip this weekend since Clifford said that we all deserve a break. Symon and Xavier agreed to it but now the two of them are missing in action. Xavier just confirmed that he cannot join us, and now it's my turn to call Symon.
"Sy—"
"Hey, Luna," sagot ni Symon mula sa kabilang linya.
"Wait, I'll put you on a loudspeaker." Then I pressed the loudspeaker button so we could all hear him. "You're on loudspeaker now. We are all here, Clifford, Scarlett, Lance, and I. Nasaan ka na?"
We heard him sighed. "Hey, guys, I'm sorry but—"
Naputol ang pagsasalita ni Symon nang biglang sumingit si Lance. "Pati ikaw?!"
"Xavier's not there yet, isn't he?"
"He wouldn't come. He said he needs to sleep and then go to school later. He's kind of busy, I think." Ako na ang sumagot para sa aming lahat. Mukha kasing nag-ta-tantrums na si Lance tapos si Scarlett, nagsusungit sa tabi ng SUV na dala ni Clifford. Akala kasi namin, anim kaming mag-ro-road trip pero mukhang apat na lamang kami.
"Same here. I'm really sorry. I have some work in the Student Council. I hope you will understand."
Sabay-sabay halos kaming napabuntong-hininga kaya napatingin kami sa isa't isa at hindi maiwasang mapatawa. Kahit si Scarlett ay bahagya ring natawa. Napangiti naman ako.
