Chapter 13

"Sit down, Julia. Pacing isn't going to do you any good." Aryan said, rubbing the back of his neck.

"She's late. I knew something would happen. I knew someone would catch them and-what happens to her then?" I asked, speaking a mile a minute.

"She can get out easily."

"Why isn't she here then? Where... where was Kellan all this time?"

Aryan stood up and put a hand on my shoulder. "Kellan was at a group meeting. With guards standing watch in and outside of the room, remember?"

I sighed. It was just after breakfast. Kellan was most likely stuck in group. Never the same one as me though.

"Now, relax. Everything's going to be fine."

"So what do we do once we're safe? Just hide from Kellan?"

"Wait for him to come after you."

"So what? So he can kill me?"

Aryan pulled his phone out and glanced at the time. "We're not going to let anything happen to you, Julia."

"Then why didn't you come after me sooner?"

"Julia, when you go into battle, you don't go in without a plan. You figure out what you need to do in order to win."

I glared at him.

His phone went off and he answered it just seconds later. "What's up?" He listened before his expression changed. "Wait there. I'm on my way."

He hung up and handed the phone to me. "You're staying here. We'll call if anything happens."

"You are not leaving me here. What if something happens? What if Kellan comes looking for me?"

"The hospital is under lock-down. There's no way he can get up here."

I crossed my arms over my chest. "They were supposed to be watching me. See how well that turned out?"

"Julia-"

"No, just leave me up here. If something happens I'll just... die, I guess."

"You're not going to die."

I rolled my eyes at his back and sat down, looking at the phone. I'd only seen a cell phone once before and it was at the nurses' station. I figured they all looked different but I was surprised to see Aryan have such a fancy, high-tech phone.

The door closed and I glanced up to see Kellan standing only a few feet from me. His hospital bracelet was gone and his wings were more prominent.

And he looked mad.

I stood up and took a step back. "How did you get up here?"

"I could ask you the same thing. How did you know there was even know there were steps up here?"

"I'm not stupid."

"You must know why I'm here then."

"What did I ever do to you to make you feel the need to kill me?"

"You're too powerful. If I have to be the one to kill you then so be it."

I threw the phone at him, hoping it'd hit him, and started running away from him. He dodged the phone and it hit the ground and busted.

I ran only a few feet before I got to the edge of the roof. I dug my feet in and stumbled before I stopped.

"You can't hide from me, Julia."

"Stay away from me."

His arm wrapped around my middle and he pushed me onto the ground. He pressed a pocket knife to my throat, his knee pressing down on my stomach.

He opened his mouth to speak but nothing came out. He stared at me for a few minutes before he lifted his knee. "You look just like her."

The door opened and Kellan extended his wings. He dropped the knife he'd been holding and flew away from us. Away from the hospital.

Brayden ran over to me and helped me sit up. "What the hell was that?"

"You believe me now?"

"I can't believe this!" Aryan yelled, crouching over his broken phone.

"It's just a phone." Lucy said, her arms crossed over her chest.

"I just replaced it."

"You'll get over it."

I looked at Brayden with raised eyebrows. "How are you holding up?"

"This is a lot to take in, Julia."

"Tell me about it."

"We need to go, Aryan." Lucy said, extending her wings.

Aryan sighed and picked up the broken pieces of his phone. He stuck them in his pocket before opening his wings up.

Lucy walked over to Brayden and I and helped me to my feet. "Julia comes with me, the boy's with Aryan."

"I have a name." Brayden said, glaring at Lucy.

"We can discuss that later. We need to get out of here."

"Where are we going?" I asked.

"Our place." Aryan said, meeting my gaze.

"Where is that?" Brayden asked.

"You ask too many questions." Aryan said, clapping Brayden on the back.

He glared at Aryan. "Excuse me but I have no idea what's going on."

"We'll fill you in." Lucy said. She pulled me up against her chest and started moving her wings, lifting us off the ground.

I squeezed my eyes shut and wrapped my arms around her.

She laughed close to my ear. "You're safe with me, Julia."

"I think I might throw up."
