Chapter 35

I glanced into the hallway before I crept from my room. I put my ear against the door, hoping Lucy would be distracted and not with Aryan.

When I didn't hear anything, I opened the door and came to an empty room. I checked under the bed, the closet, the bathroom. Everywhere I could think and came up empty. The bed was messy and the medical bandages were on the floor.

He was gone.

How could he just leave? He was in no shape to go anywhere, especially on his own. But why didn't he tell me?

"Lucy!" I yelled, rubbing my forehead with shaking hands.

Lucy was walking down the hallway when she spoke. "I thought I told you not to bother him."

When she appeared in the doorway, she noticed it was empty. "Where's Aryan?"

"I don't know. I came in here and he was just... gone."

"You don't know where he went?"

"No, I don't." I said, raising my voice.

Lucy sighed and walked over to an open window. She looked out over it before she jumped from it.

I screamed through my teeth. She had to know where he was. She wouldn't just leave without saying anything. She wouldn't go without me.

I ran down the hall and the stairs. I went outside to where Kellan was and grabbed his arm.

"Julia, what are you doing?" He asked, confusion thick in his voice.

"Aryan's gone and Lucy just left and I can't fly."

"What do you mean Aryan's gone?"

I glared at him. "He's gone. He left. No note, no phone call, no nothing. And I'm pretty sure Lucy knows where he is."

"Why do you think that?"

"She just... left. Took off to... find him or join him or... I don't know. But she didn't tell me and-"

"Julia, the last thing we need to do is to try and follow her. What if we end up lost ourselves?"

"But he's gone and I can't just sit back and not know what's going on." The desperation in my voice made me want to cry.

Kellan put both hands on my shoulders and turned me to face him. "Let Lucy handle this. She wouldn't keep you in the dark if she knew what was going on."

I wanted to believe him. I wanted to believe that Lucy wasn't hurting me intentionally. But everything was so messed up that I didn't know what was real and what wasn't.

"I just want him back."

"Let's get inside. I think it's going to start raining soon."

I flipped the mattress over and tossed blankets aside, getting tangled up in them. I kicked them away and got to my hands and knees to look under the bed. Aryan was an incredibly tidy person. There wasn't even dust under the bed. So not making the bad was odd.

I stood back up and glanced around the room. On the bedside table were his glasses. He never left the house without them.

"Kellan!" I stepped onto the bed and picked up the glasses. They were dirty and there was a little bit of blood on the lens.

"You're going to get yourself killed, Julia. You shouldn't be standing on the bed."

I rolled my eyes before jumping down. I walked over to him. "Look."

"Glasses? I didn't think you wore any."

I groaned loudly. "They're not mine. They're Aryan's."

"What about them?"

"He never leaves the house without them."

Kellan looked at me, waiting for me to speak first.

"Something's not right here. We need to get Lucy back here and tell her. We need a plan."

"How do you suppose we do that? Lucy didn't take her phone with her."

"If there's one thing I've learned from you, it's how to talk to someone against their will."
