When Clary awoke in the other dimension everything seemed a lot brighter than what she was used to. It was as if the irradiance of the world had been ramped up another 30%. She could hear the TV in the background, but didn't care listen to it. She was back in her old apartment, and she wasn't covered in runes anymore. She just looked like normal Clary.

Was this Alternate Universe in the past.

She heard male humming, and spun around, expecting to maybe see Luke with his usual bright grin. But instead she was face to face with Valentine, her father, and he was setting the table. She caught sight of the knife next to the plate and grabbed it instantly. Meliorn was right, the portal certainly did lead her to Valentine.

"Where's My Mother!" she yelled. She hadn't noticed the fact that he wasn't covered in runes either, and instead wore a light blue shirt and simple jeans. He didn't look like a Shadowhunter. He looked like a dad.

"Whoa!" chuckled out Valentine, holding his hands up in surrender. "Is this from one of your cosplay skits?" Clary's eyebrows furrowed and she could feel the tears welling up in her eyes. Why was Valentine acting so differently.

"Honey?" he yelled behind him, his voice taking on a sweet tone. "Come in here, you gotta see this!" Valentine turned back to her, grinning. "No, seriously, you have to let me come with you, just once. I want to see what you do at these things, alright?"

Clary had never been more confused in her life. Why was Valentine acting like a father instead of a murderer? Where was his runes? Where were hers? What was going on? But then suddenly everything started to spin when a light, airy laughed filled the room. Clary almost dropped he knife in shock as the sunlight filtered over her mother's pale skin, causing her hair to look even brighter.

"Val, you're not allowed to do cosplay." Clary felt the tears in her eyes, stinging at her irises. Her mum was alive and safe. "You'd stick out like a sore thumb." Jocelyn and Valentine laughed with one another, but Clary didn't even stop to think about that. She dropped the knife onto the table and rushed towards her mother.

"Mom!" Jocelyn, confusedly, hugged her daughter back. Clary burrowed her head into her mom's neck like she usually did, inhaling the familiar scent. She would do anything to have her back, and here she was hugging her again.

"Wow, if you miss us this much, you should really leave the dorm room more often." But then suddenly, it all seemed to dawn on Clary and everything started to make sense. This was an Alternative Universe. Like the ones she and Simon would read comics about, ones that they would fake. In this one, they weren't Shadowhunters, they were just a family. Clary was probably at college, and her mom and dad were in love. It all made sense.
