A/N this is by no means important, but these are just little snips of why this story is what it is, and what happens in the future, and information about the origins draft. This is really more for me than anyone else, because these are things that are fun for me to remember, but if anyone's curious, I figured I could share.
1. I wrote the outline for this story on a trip to Portland Oregon. We were driving up the coast to Washington and I spent the entire car ride working on the plot.
2. Collier's name was originally Colby but I really didn't like that
3. Colby and Henry Stone were a couple I had in mind for about a year before I even wrote the outline to the story
4. I wrote the story the summer after my junior year of high school- over a year ago now :( It was the summer I broke up with my boyfriend of two years, and I nearly stopped writing, but pushed myself to continue
5. This is the only story (so far) that I've drafted day by day, so it has an accurate time line
6. The first scene I had written was written approximately a year before I drafted the story. It involved Collier (Colby at the time) ranting to Sarah and Emerson (whose original name was Landon) about being nosy, and Henry kissed him to shut up. This scene clearly did not get put in the novel.
7. The only original scene that got put in the final draft of the novel was Collier borrowing Henry's shirt after sleeping over (though in the draft it was grey, and it wasn't his favorite shirt)
8. Originally, Collier wasn't going to be a painter, wasn't going to love the ocean, and wasn't going to be a klutz, but he was such a dull character without all the quirkiness that I needed to add it.
9. The boys love of anime comes from my love of anime, and Henry's Star Wars poster is a sort of tribute to my father. The anime they are watching in chapter five is Attack on Titan, but I don't know how copy right works so I didn't say that
10. Henry's parents are the way that they are with aliens and Bigfoot because I think that's fun
11. Henry's mom pronounced his name the way she does because that's how the lady in the movie I was watching while writing that chapter pronounced the name of her dog Henry
12. Henry and Collier love horror movies because I absolutely hate them, and was forced to watch one in high school in a friend's basement, and Henry sleeps in a basement
13. Henry and Collier's drive to the ocean date is literally my dream date, so that's why it was added
14. This is the first book I wrote where the entire thing is told in the point of view of only one person
15. My favorite character is Henry, but I absolutely love Collier
16. Sarah and Emerson were supposed to break up at some point during the novel
17. Henry and Jacob were supposed to have a heated discussion towards the end of the novel that made Collier upset
18. They're both dog people and end up with one at some point in the future
19. Whether or not they adopt children is still up for debate
20. I actually have a prompt of their wedding day that involves them sleeping in late, and the beach, but I'll probably never finish it
21. I was already planning Remy and Cecil's story which is why Remy has a cameo in the middle
22. When Cole spends the summer with his Aunt, Henry goes with him. This was originally supposed to be the epilogue, but I decided to put it further into the future
