Tony Stark // Iron Man -

It was safe to say that it was not going to be your day. You overslept the night before and woke up at seven in the morning, having forgotten to set your alarm for your first day as the assistant to Tony Stark at Stark Industries. Now, you have little under an hour to get showered, dressed and make your way to the tower to meet your new boss.

Hurrying as fast as humanly possible,  you finally managed to find a dress that was appropriate for the occasion and a pair of your newest black heels. You dabbed on some makeup then vacated your New York apartment, jogging down the stairs and running out of the side exit to get to the taxi bay faster. Five minutes later you were in the back of a yellow cab, hurtling towards the shining metal and glass skyscraper that dominated the city's skyline.

When you speed-walked into the lobby, Happy Hogan was waiting, a grumpy and tired look falling over his face when he saw you approaching. It was either the fact that you were late or that he'd been asked to collect you that had put him in a mood.

"Y/N?" he called as you neared him across the black marble floor. "Y/N Y/L/N?"

You nod and he takes you by the elbow, marching you towards the elevator. "Come on, we haven't got all day and you're already..." he checked the gold watch on his wrist, "ten minutes late."

You get into the elevator silently and get out at one of the labs, Happy intent on steering you through the hallways until you reached a large, open space full of science equipment. Tony Stark was at one of the benches, a metal glove propped on a stand as he poked and prodded it with different tools. It took him a moment to register the two of you standing in the doorway.

"Ah, Happy," he said, dropping a screwdriver and turning to face you both, a smile lighting up his face. "And you must be Y/N! Perfectly on time, I see."

He winked, sending a flurry of butterflies wild in your stomach, as Happy simply sighed and walked out without a word. With a small beckoning motion, Tony called you towards his bench. "Come here, I need your opinion on something. Your file said you have a degree - is that right?"

"Yes, Mr Stark, I graduated top of my class," you reply as you take a peek at the metal glove.

"Oh boy. You and I are going to get along very well."

Steve Rogers // Captain America -

You were on a mission when you first met him.

It was dark outside and you were god-knows-where in an abandoned airbase, duct-taped to a chair. It was an interrogation but you weren't a beginner; you'd been a SHIELD agent for the past five years.  You sat upright in the chair, not even attempting to struggle against your bonds, as two men paced back and forth, half-shouting half-asking questions that they knew you'd never answer. They wanted to break you; you wanted to bide time. You knew that Fury wouldn't just hang you out to dry. You just needed to hold out until the cavalry arrived.

"I'll ask one last time," one of the men shouted, coming closer until his hand was rested on the back of the chair. "Where is James Barnes? Where is the Winter Soldier?"

"And I'll say it again: I don't know who that is."

You were about to speak again but was cut off by him shoving the chair back with considerable force. Your first reaction was to use your legs to steady yourself but your ankles were tied to the chair so you couldn't move them. You just fell back; powerless. The cold concrete met the back of your head and it bounced once before slamming back down again, raising a chorus of ringing in your ears and a sharp, stinging pain where your skull had hit the floor.
