Chapter Ten

The rest of the weekend Alexis and I spent doing nothing productive, my parents didn’t let me go to work Sunday, I feel like the worst employee ever.

We hadn’t seen the kids in a while so Alexis and I spent Sunday morning and afternoon at the orphanage.

This week there was a new little girl who came to the orphanage, the head there told us her parents died in a car accident, and she had no other family to take her in. She’s only seven.

She has really blonde hair and bright blue eyes.

“Hello I’m Arianna” I went up to talk to her, she looked so broken, it was really heartbreaking. “What’s your name?”

“Lucy” she looked confused.

“How are you today?” I asked, because saying nice to meet you would be totally inappropriate.

“I’m” she paused

“You can be honest with me Lucy” I reassured her

“Not good” she whispered “I’m having nightmares every night” she hugged me and started crying, and I just let her, she needs someone to cry too. People who say crying does nothing can just go screw themselves, this little girl just needs to cry.

“I’m here” I whispered. I don’t know why I felt to drawn to this little girl, she was adorable and even though she isn’t saying much I can tell she’s a sweetheart.

When she finish crying she told me about her brother Mason who got sent somewhere else who was sixteen.

They separated a family! Oh no.

“Lex.” I called her over “This is Lucy, she’s new” she understood “Can you sit with her for a minute please?” and I looked at Lucy “I’ll be right back” I gave her a smile and went to find someone who knew what was going on

“Why did Lucy and her brother get separated?” I demanded once we got to an office

“Lucy only got sent here because the other place was full, much to his protest I might add” she told me

“How far is it from here?” I asked her

“Maybe fifteen miles”

“I want him moved here tomorrow” I demanded, no one was going to keep her from the only family she has left. “I want that number” she nodded and wrote it down for me

I immediately called the number.

“Hello, change orphanage how may I help you?”

“Hello, this is Arianna Hope from hope orphanage”

“Hello miss Hope, what can I do for you”

“We have a little girl named Lucy that just came to us and I’ve been informed that her brother Mason and her got separated, I was wondering why.” I stayed polite

“There was no more room for Lucy here, and I’m sorry, but we still can’t take her if that’s why you’re calling” she didn’t seem too pleasant

“Not at all, I want Mason here with Lucy. It’s not right to separate siblings with the loss they’ve gone through, and we have room for both of them”

“Are you sure Miss. Hope?” she sounded hopeful.

“Yes, and in the future if you receive sibling’s but can’t take on both, please call here and they will let me know. When can you have Mason here?” I asked
