We Don't Talk Enough About Pain

No one talks about
How hard life can be

No one talks about
How difficult it is
To pick yourself up off the floor
When your very bones ache
And you're too tired to put yourself to bed

No one talks about how
When a big breaks your heart
It's not just a crack
Like in the movies
It is the slow
And dreary
And painful
Collapsing of your world
Over
And over
And over

No one tells you
That your life will end
A thousand times over
Because your life
You thought
Was meant to be spent
With that boy

No one talks about
How much it aches
When you develop a generic condition
In your 20s
How your body hurts from
The inside out
And yet
No one can see it
So you must just go on

We don't talk about pain
Not often enough
And the less we talk
The more we feel
Like maybe
Something is wrong with us
And perhaps
We are alone
