"Shit!" I frantically yelled, jumping over the uneven pavement.

Theo wasn't as lucky.

Before he could crash his entire body onto the floor and take me down with him, Ares grabbed him firmly by the shoulders.

"Watch out, idiot! Come on!" he hissed, venom leaking from his voice.
Ares' eyes glinted murderously as Theo yanked himself out of his grasp.

He froze for a second before looking back at Ares with the angriest expression I've ever seen, and if we weren't running for our lives right now, I would've taken a step back from the shock.

"I'm the idiot?" he sneered back, sliding into the alley right after I did.
"Should I remind you whose fault this is?"

While looking for a place to hide, I could see from the corner of my eyes how Ares is slowly losing his shit.
Before he could open his mouth and say something really stupid, I turned towards them, and shoved them behind the gigantic green dumpster.

"Shut the fuck up! This shit is on the both of you!" I whispered harshly, and when the recognizable sound of too-many-to-handle running footsteps was heard, they finally gone quiet.

With one last glare at each other, they crouched against the wall.

It was quiet for a few dreadful moments, until an angry voice broke it.

"I think they went that way, all of you, follow me. Brody, you go check this alley. I want these sons of bitches alive!"

Keyla.

Yeah, I know. It's very much a chick's name, but don't say that to his face.

I've heard stories about how Keyla once shot a man's dick because he was dumb enough to tell him something along the lines of 'did your parents want a girl?'."

But I'm not in a place to judge this man, or really anyone else. Not when Keyla's whole gang is chasing us.

Looking over at Ares and Theo, I saw it on their faces that we were all thinking about the same thing.

Now, when it's just this 'Brody' guy, we can easily escape.

Brody's cautious steps got closer to us, and I had to push Ares down by the shirt to prevent him from jolting up.

'Gun' I mouthed, pointing at the hand of the dark approaching shadow.

"You here?" Brody hesitantly asked.
It came out surprisingly genuine.

Wait, did he think we'd answer?

I furrowed my eyebrows, and Theo had to muster every last bit of his self control just to keep a straight face.

A few moments of silence had passed, and his shadow began to get smaller.
He was exiting the alley.

Theo launched out first.

In a quick motion, he kicked the man's knee from behind, causing him to drop to the ground.
Due to his surprise from the sudden attack, the gun dropped right out of his hand, sliding all the way towards the wall.

I ran and grabbed it.

When I turned my head around, Ares' fetal punch knocked the living shit out of the guy.
I almost grimaced from the sound of a definitely broken rib.

Tucking the gun into the back of my pants, I made my way to Theo, who was looking for a way to escape.
His eyes scanned my body quickly, and when he didn't find any blood on it, he nodded his head forward as if saying 'follow me.'

Making sure Ares is behind me, I followed his hurried steps.

"We could run off to Washington's street. I know a guy who'll let us crash for a while." He said as we climbed over a fence.
The cold metal made chills run down my spine.

The adrenaline is slowly fading.

When we were far enough from the alley, I cursed them both.

They just had to piss Keyla off, and in the middle of the day, when everyone could see us running away very, very clearly.

We passed a few buildings before Ares couldn't keep his thoughts inside anymore.
He ran his hand through his hair.
"Keyla's bitches are everywhere. Ain't no way we're surviving in this neighborhood anymore."

He's right. We can't stay, not when the biggest gang out here is after us.

"I guess it's time to move again." I smiled bitterly, looking at his annoyed facade fading.

The three of us, we never had a place ever since we were almost thirteen.
We kept moving around, not staying anywhere for more than three months tops. But somehow, we've been in this shitty part of New York for almost six months.

"Shit, really? Thought you said you wanted to 'settle'." He mimicked with a surprised tone.
Even Theo looked at me with his eyebrow raised.

I rolled my eyes, stopping myself from hitting them straight in the face.

"Well, assholes," I gritted out with a sarcastic smile, tearing my eyes away from them and looking at our surroundings.

We're standing in front of a gas station, the one that's near the highway.
"Thanks to you, we're nothing more than Keyla's prey here--"

I stopped.

Right across the street, was a fucking police car.

Two men in uniforms were chatting, coffees in hands.
Yeah, I probably should have mentioned that Kelya is not the only one that's after us.
We've done some pretty shitty stuff, I won't deny. But we were bored and in a dire need of an income, so we stole some wallets.

And maybe some cars.

And apparently, Karma got her eyes on my sexy ass, because one of the officers is looking directly at me.

Before I could even tell the boys, he threw his black coffee down and pointed his gun at us.
Over my throbbing heartbeat, I heard him yell. "Freeze!"

And we did freeze.

And then we ran.
