Not Enough

20 2 2

Let's get drunk on sober memories,
And go back to the time
When our worries were simple.
When you made me laugh everyday
And kissed my dimples.

When did we stop laughing?
Was it when I had my first miscarriage?
Or second? Or third?
Was it when we got rejected by that adoption agency?
On the ground that we weren't stable enough.

When we still love each other and
Don't like being apart,
Why do you hide your tears from me
And don't look me in the eyes enough?

We used to laugh at knock knock jokes
And fart sounds,
Even when you slipped and fell
On that muddy ground.
So why don't we laugh now?
At our own lives,
Which has to be an elaborate joke
Because our happiness in the happily ever after
Didn't last long enough.
