"our parents are pretty crazy."
she nodded.
"you're not as talkative as your mom, huh?"
she nodded again.
"that's okay, sometimes the best things are left unsaid, I guess."
"what did you just say?"
"oh—the best things are left unsaid?"
"yeah, where did you get that?"
he stared at her strangely, "just from a friend."
"who?—actually, don't answer that..." her gaze was unfocused then.
"north, you okay?"
"huh?—yeah. i'm good."
"does the phrase mean something to you?"
she paused. "i think it does."
