TENDING TO THE STORM

CHAPTER 4

    Unable to restrain his wandering thoughts any longer,he shut down his laptop and picked up one of the files on his desk, flipping open the file, he tried his hardest to concentrate but was still unable to.

    He shut the file annoyed and left his office for his room.

    As soon as he entered,he was mesmerized by what he saw;
  
    Lizzy standing in the doorway with one of his shirts on.
  Clearly,it was larger than her, enough that it drooped to her thigh like a gown. Drying her wet hair with a white cotton towel,caused the shirt to ride up above her thigh giving him a clear view of caramel,Smooth, silky skin.

    He stared long and hard before she turned to find him in the doorway. Her smile brightened up her whole face.

    "What are you doing over there?" She stopped drying the towel,holding the towel in one hand, she waved him over with her free hand.
  
    The action caused one sleeve of his shirt to droop down one of her shoulders exposing her beautiful skin,she didn't seem to notice. He walked over to her as if in a trance.

    Enthusiastic, she whispered as he drew close.

   "Sorry to ask this of you but..." She lowered her head shyly scared to ask.

    "Can I please borrow your cellphone?I need to call my roommate. Am sure she's worried by now." She pleaded.

    He raised an eyebrow at her question. He was about to reply but she cut him off.

   "I need to make the call and my cellphone is...umm" she tried to find the right words but he gestured with his raised hand for her to stop talking.

   Dipping his hand into his pocket,he brought out his iPhone 11pro max,grabbing her outstretched hand he placed the phone in her hand.

   Looking up at him for his kind gesture,she whispered the words.

    "Thank you" then she opened it up and realized that she didn't know how to operate it.

   She looked up at him for help.
Reading her expression,he took the phone and opened it up to the call logs.
   Breathing a sigh of  relief, she took the opened phone from him gratefully and keyed in Lilly's phone number from memory.

    "Hello?" She heard Lilly's panicked voice on the other line. She was panting.

    "Who is this?...Lizzy? Is that you?" She asked desperately.

   "Yes,its me" she answered after a long pause. She heard Lilly breath a sigh of relief .

    'Where the heck have you been?!I called your school and they said they didn't know where you were...what happened?Are you alright?where are you staying?"she badgered.

   Lizzy couldn't help but smile with tears welling up in her eyes,she wanted to tell Lilly everything but she knew it would break her heart and she would blame herself, much less in the presence of a stranger.

      After reassuring Lilly and promising to come back as soon as she could ,she ended the call and returned the phone.

    " She's really worried about you"he stated the obvious.

    Lizzy resisted the urge to roll her eyes and just smiled instead.

    "Yeah" she replied.

Snapping out of it,she looked up at him and asked the one question that has been on her mind since.

   "How did you know where I was?" She looked at him suspiciously.

    "Were you following me?" She folded her arms and smirked at him,her eyes challenging him

  He was dumbstruck by her unexpected question...  "I was in the neighbourhood' he answered not meeting her eyes.

    " At 2:00am in the morning?at the other end of town? "She stated,then laughed at his surprised face.

She cut him off just as he was about to defend himself
   " Its a good thing you were there otherwise..."she sighed
"...I would have been dead meat"Her face turned solemn and a piece of his heart broke as he recalled the memory of her being beaten up.

    He tried to console her
" you should report him to the appropriate authorities".

    She shook her head vehemently.

  "No,Lilly's going to find out. Besides,he's a drug dealer he would know how to worm his way out of it" she sighed tiredly .
They just stood there for a while looking at each other until Louisa cleared her throat with a smile on her face. They hadn't noticed her standing there for a few minutes.

   "Dominar,tu' tender in hue' sped"she informed him.
  Standing up at attention,he headed for the door.

   " I have to leave soon,I promised Lilly I will be back soon" she said feeling too sad than she had to admit.
After a pause, he responded coldly.

   "I'll have a car ready for you in 10minutes. Get ready" he turned to go.

As dejected as she felt,she still managed to bring herself to say the words '

    "Thank you... For your hospitality. I will be forever grateful"he stopped in his tracks and after a while no reply came and he just left. Hoping with all his heart that he could forget her.

      Louisa came to where Lizzy was,to console her. She knew all about her master's tendency to act cold sometimes but she knew he didn't mean it deep down.

    " ma'am,I just bring your dress and things for your wounds for you"she said and left.

    Lizzy wrapped her arms around her body to contain the chills she felt.

she'd never felt so rejected before unlike in her past...

  As the limo pulled up outside the house,she glanced back once more at the house to capture the beautiful scenery of the house. And with one final glance,she stepped into the limo prepared to leave all this behind as she got back to her reality, back to her world never to return again.. 

   Blake's outline cast over the heavy duty curtains that were meant to shield the room from the blinding rays of the sun but now it felt like it was mocking him to remind him as he watched her leave with the sole intention of forgetting him. But he questioned himself.

     'Can I forget her?'

Looking unto the cold tracks of the limo long gone into the horizon.

   He'd never felt so alone.
