"Why do you care?" You turned your head away, hoping he'd just leave. The last thing you wanted was to turn your relationship into one of pity. He didn't need to help you in the state you were in, you went nearly your entire life dealing with these problems on your own, and that shouldn't change in just two days.
And all it resulted in was pain...
You pushed lingering thoughts aside as the setter beside you spoke, unmoving.
"Give me one reason why I shouldn't," Sugawara sounded serious.
You blinked in surprise. He really did care? How could you respond to that? You slowly turned your body to face him once again, sobs starting to rack your body. This can't be... nobody cares for you like that anymore... they all just leave, right? He will, too, right...?
"Because you'll leave me, like everyone else. Like the boy I was texting. And I'll be alone again. Alone."
"(Y/n), I would never leave you, and if he left you, that's his loss. You're not alone. You're never alone."
You looked him in the eyes.
You did not see pity.
You did not see sadness.
You did not see curiosity.
You saw... something different. Something you couldn't place your finger on.

He hesitantly rubbed your back, and you responded by moving closer to him. Huddling on the floor outside the gym. Providing comfort through merely his arms. It was like there was nobody else in the world except for you... and him.
A thousand words in one hug. In one minute of comfort. You felt safe. You felt... loved. Is this what it's like? To be cared for? Affection was new to you.
Your breath began to steady, your hiccuping sobs turning into shaky sighs. Leaning into his warmth, you allowed yourself to succumb to the exhaustion that had burdened you since you had woken up.
You were so calm, at peace...
"TOBE FLYYYYYY-"
You jolted up at the sound of your ringtone blasting from your phone beside you.
You glanced apologetically at Sugawara, answering the call without even looking at the name.
"H-Hello?" You sniffled quietly, clearing your throat.
"(Y/n)?"
