Song: Do I Wanna Know? - Arctic Monkeys

(edited)

---

Adelaide

---

When the man's eyes had adjusted to the blinding light, the look of horror on his face was hard to miss.

Mano, on the other hand, looked more dangerous than I had ever seen him before.

"Gabriel, so nice of you to join me."

---

Silence covered the room like a heavy blanket as I watched recognition and disbelief flash over Gabriel's face.

Romano looked like he usually did, cocky, confident, and completely unaffected.

I walked to Mano's side so I could better gauge Gabriel's expressions, standing next to the armchair he was leisurely lying in.

Gabriel glanced at me for a short second before pursing his lips and turning back to Romano.

"What do you want?" Gabriel asked, his voice lower than I had expected it to be.

Mano cocked his head, his eyes twinkling in mischief.

"I just want to jog your memory."

No matter how many times I tried to ask Mano why he wanted to talk to the guy before killing him, he wouldn't tell me, now I was wishing that he had told me.

I've always hated playing with my food before eating it.

Gabriel looked up at me again, no trace of emotion on his face.

"Is this the assassin you chose?" He asked, his eyes locked with mine.

Mano didn't look up at me, instead choosing to lean forward slightly, his face turning more dangerous as he tried to get the attention of the tied-up man.

"We're not here to talk about assassins, Gabriel."

Gabriel tore his eyes away from mine and took in Mano's expression before a slow and leisurely grin grew on his face.

"She's a pretty one, it's a wonder how you can focus with her around." He taunted, clearly wanting to get under Mano's skin and unfortunately succeeding in doing so.

I kept all emotion off my face, I wasn't affected by his words, it was nothing I hadn't heard before.

Mano's hands clenched the sides of the armchair as if he had a vengeance against it.

"Oh, have I hit a nerve?" He asked, obviously amused by the reaction he had squeezed out of his captor.

His eyes flicked between Mano and me before his smile grew wider.

"Don't tell me, you have feelings for her?"

If it was even possible, Mano's grip on the chair tightened even more as Gabriel broke out in maniacal laughter.

My eyes drifted to Mano who was trying his best to control his anger before drifting to Gabriel who was finding too much amusement in this.

I had to take control.

Without a second thought, I flung the knife I had clutched in my palm at Gabriel, scratching the side of his face and landing in the chair behind him.

His laughing halted as the pain registered.

My face impassive, I walked over and retrieved my knife.

As I bent down to reach for my weapon, I whispered in his ear.
