A Visit From the Princess

Kai's Pov

I got some work done.

After putting Luna to bed I finished up some reports that I didn't get to finish last night and I read reports from the battlefield.

The rebels raided another village killing hundreds of women and children as well as winding half of my unit. I wrote back informing them that I will be there in 2 months with a new regimen that I am training.

The air felt a bit more chilly than normal

I was well aware spring is an unpredictable time for the weather but this was colder than usual

Leaning back in my chair, I stared at my ceiling. Each stone had a different shape and color. It was quite beautiful to look at.

But I often found my eyes drifting to luna's sleeping body beside me. Her hair was still wrapped up in cloth and her body sprawled out on my bed,

Something just felt right about seeing her resting in my space.

Standing up I pushed her leg back, which was hanging off the edge of my bed back. Then I wrapped her in the blanket once more.

My attention shifted when I heard a knock on the door.

Assuming it was one of the maids I opened the door only to find princess Lulia standing in her nightclothes.

" Good Evening Kai, I wanted to thank you for earlier today" she smiled that smile that captured my heart years ago

I nodded my head preparing to shut the door

But she yelled out once more

"Wait"

I looked at her

Kai I know you rejected our marriage but you are the only one I want

While I was gone I changed, I studied how to take care of a kingdom. Studied war logs as well as learned how to take care of children.

I am someone who can rule beside you. You can kill however many people you want i will support you because I know you do it for the good."

I stepped back at her enthusiasm

For years I worked to earn my name this image

But ever since luna slapped me this morning that name makes me sick to my stomach

I said nothing

"Kai please accept me" she leaned forward displaying herself

Her words gentle and almost comforting

She reached out grabbing my hand.

Her touch always made me feel like something else

She saw me for who I was

I loved her

But it is not like that anymore

She doesn't smile like he used to

She doesn't dress up for herself anymore

She's the perfect wife for me

She was designed to be the perfect wife for me

But I know she isn't happy

This isn't what she wants and until she can see that I will not accept her

" No"

"Kai please" she stepped into my room

But her eyes drifted to lunas sleeping body

She turned in the bed clutching my pillow

Her face rested peacefully

"Is it her Kai, do you want her more than me" her eyes filled with tears

"What is it about her Kai !" this time she yelled her voice bouncing of the walls in my room'

I looked back to make sure luna was still asleep

When I looked back at lulia her face was still

"Kai I will not lose to her" her voice back to her usual calm voice

And with that, she turned and left the room

I slowly turned and walked further into my room

A soft voice whispered my name

"kai "

I looked up to see luna sleepy-looking across the room

I walked over to the edge of the bed

She looked up at me with eyes glaring into my soul

"You loved her didn't you

I remained silent

I wonder how much she heard

" my mother once told me you never stop loving someone you just shift the way how you love lets you treat them"

She rolled over on the bed and made a little spot for me

She looked up waiting for me to sit

" you have probably spent years creating this name that hurts you more than it hurts other people."

As she said this she laid her head on her pillow she probably won't remember a thing in the morning

But I know I will remember every detail

The way how her eyes are barely open

How her lips gently part when she breath

The way her head rests on my pillow

The way how my heart is banging against my chest how I desperately want to touch her

I watch as she slowly raises her hand and puts it on mine

"I was angry at you but now I understand kai"

Her hands felt warm despite the chilly air in the room

"I see you" she whispered smiling to herself

Within a second she was fully asleep her hands still resting on mine

I didn't move

Leaning against my bed frame I held her hand the whole night

I held on so tightly it was like I was afraid

afraid that the moment I let go she would forget what she said about me

Afraid she would no longer believe in me

So I held her hand and listened to the way her breaths would match with the waves outside
