Abuja,

8:30 a.m.

When Zainab entered. She called me into her room.

“I want to advice you as a sister and a friend. Stay away from that doctor! He deserved nothing from you, not even a portion of your friendship, let alone an ounce of it!”

I sat beside her primary-sized bed. It was as if she was preparing to go out for another blind-date or something.

“The way you guys acted today, I think you’re somehow destined to meet. I mean... He felt really sad, and he really wants to be a friend with you.”

She let out a laughter and hissed.

“Excuse me.. but what are you saying, Aisha?”

“For goodness’ sake, he’s a doctor!”

“Please, please, please! What if he’s a doctor? Hmm? I’m not interested in any wretched, infested guy. That we bump into each other that day has him the audacity to ask me for my number and now you’re talking about friendship. Please oo!”

“You’re young, beautiful, rich and kind-hearted, Zainab. I just wish you the best in life for you, mum. That’s all.”

She walked up to her window-sized mirror to adjust her makeup.

“Well, that’s all in the past now. I’m going out on an arranged date. And as you can see, I’m already late. I need to get going.”

“Mum... Come on. Why do you go on blind dates every week? I feel you worth more...”

“Well, my parents expect I bring a matured and well-trained, Nigerian, Muslim guy who got’s-It-all as a fiancée... Although, I’m desperate, I also need to take my time.” She finally smiled at her reflection in the mirror and walked to me.

“So... how do I look?”

She posed in front of me as I let out a soft laugh.

“You look extremely beautiful. Don’t stay out late else. I’ll cry all night, okay?”

I don’t know why; I started feeling home-alone like I was her actual daughter. She gave me a tight hug, sticking her baked make-up to my face.

“Huh-huh... Don’t worry, mummy will buy you something, okay? I’ll be back before 10:00p.m., I promise.”She blushed away as she left the room.

“Okay...Good luck, mum!!!”

“Bye!!”

‘’Bye..."

I waved her goodbye and prayed for her safety and protection.

Days Later...

“Assalam Alaikum.”

“Wa’alaikum sallam...” She opened the door and say it was Doctor Abdullah. She immediately rolled her eyes at him from head to toe, disgustingly and hissed. He looked stunned at Zainab. Guess he wasn’t expecting to see her.

“What do you want?!” she asked with venom in her voice.

“I’m here to see my patient, Zainab. Please, just let me in.” Abdullah pleaded.

She hissed and banged on the door at his face, locking it right away. I heard the loud noise of their conversation from my room and rushed out to Zainab. I looked around, but she was alone reading a magazine.

“Zainab, who were you talking to?”

“No one, dearie. I was reading this aloud. Hope no problem?”
