I went exploring in Old Compton years ago. I found it so fascinating. It was the only part of Los Angeles that didn't make a recovery after the attack, so it's full of history. The abandoned homes haven't been touched for decades, so that means they've also been reclaimed by nature. It's an interesting little place that's off limits during the day, but nobody really pays attention to what happens here at night.

The skatepark stood out to me for one reason, and one reason only. It seemed like a good place for battle. An abandoned pit of complete concrete. It was part of my childhood to think strategically like that. When I came here at 13 with my friends, I stood in this exact spot at the bottom of the pit...

The CIA is on this mission to keep it completely classified. Also because Kenward is a dangerous ass man. The more we thought about the plan, the more we realized he will fight. What was originally supposed to be an arrest is now a capture. He'll still be tried for his crimes, however, it won't be traditional. They'll have him under absolute mind control, with only the free will to speak. They're hidden in houses across the streets, surrounding the entire area. My signal is the only thing to wait for.

Ramiro is right by my side. He knows what he needs to be prepared for. The void isn't something to mess around with. Then there's my father and Oren stationed in houses with a direct view to the two of us. My father's gift is a precaution, and Oren's sniping is a last resort.

Kenward can try as much shit as he wants, but he will be defeated tonight.

The footsteps that were on the rough concrete of the street now change to the skids on the slick stuff in this park. One of them sounds like it tramples over the green poking through a crack. I listen and listen to them until I can see him with my own two eyes. It's easy for him to get down here with me considering he's in good shape.

"So this wasn't a duel?" he asks to clarify.

"I just needed to speak with you."

He's in a dark coat and dress shoes. Exactly what I predicted.

"So your little boyfriend is supposed to protect you? Hate to say it but his blade won't be able to touch me or my void."

He send a quick mass of the silk black past my right towards Ramiro. I don't flinch, and I don't fret. He knows how to handle it. The noise of a katana leaving it's scabbard comes first, then the noise of it returning follows. Kenward is shocked.

"Each time you've used the void as a threat, I've noticed the way it carries in the air. When you just sent it past me, it whipped the air around me and blew it into my side. You'd think that it can't be bothered by a breeze or wind, because darkness is only the absence of light. There is no weight to it."

He tilts his head down and returns his eyes to me.

"But then I remembered when you smothered the two of us in it. I felt the density of it around me. It may have brushed over my body, but I felt it connecting to yours when it traveled inside me to meet every last inch of you."

I didn't think much of it at the time. I was way too distracted. Then I thought back on every minute we spent together to figure out any type of weakness. I can't believe I missed it before.

"You don't pull darkness out of thin air, you generate it from your own being. That gives it mass, and that gives it vulnerability to gushes off wind."

That's what Ramiro did. I told him that if he could figure out how to move the air with his sword, then he could defend himself against Adrian. His gift made that simple, and he practiced cutting and creating air until he got it perfect. The trick is to use as much force, speed, and stability as possible while swinging. It generates one large current that will push other gases around it.
