MATHIAS'S SUSPENSION WAS INSTANTANEOUS.

On the other hand, Sebastian got off scot-free under the explanation that he wasn't the one who started it. But Dallas knew better; that excuse was to cover up the fact that the principal was too scared to hear from Sebastian's parents or worse, stop getting their funding.

As for Dallas, she went to school as usual the next day, still shaken up by the events of the day prior. Walking down the halls didn't feel the same anymore. People stared at her and whispered as usual — especially since the news of the breakup spread through the school like wildfire — but it just felt weirder than usual. For a time, Dallas didn't know what to wear, what to do at school, or how to act.

As Sebastian's girlfriend, he would drive her to school every morning, their entwined hands resting on the center compartment throughout the journey. Then they'd walk down the halls hand in hand, and he'd hug her or give her a kiss goodbye or tell her that he loved her before they separated for their morning classes.

But Dallas wasn't Sebastian's girlfriend anymore.

And because of that, she didn't know how to act anymore.

After surviving a seemingly endless period of biology, Dallas retreated to the bathroom to fix her makeup — yet another thing she did while she was Sebastian's girlfriend. She had to look good for him. As she dabbed the end of her beauty blender to her forehead, she pulled back for a moment and sighed, nausea from her stomach climbing up her chest as the argument and fight looped in her mind for the umpteenth time;

How Mathias slammed his fist in Sebastian's face and how they toppled to the ground, exchanging blows before a couple of teachers and students rushed onto the scene and hauled the boys away from each other. Mathias brandished a busted lip from the fight whereas Sebastian suffered a nasty black eye and bruise along his jawline.

"Dallas, there you are!"

The abrupt voice startled Dallas, and her pocket mirror would have bounced out of her hands, had she not grabbed it at the last second. Whirling around, she came face to face with Leila and Marilyn, who strutted into the bathroom seconds ago. Leila dropped her makeup bag to the bathroom counter and unzipped it, revealing an assemblage of brushes, powders, and other concoctions she expertly slapped onto her face every day. The girl popped out her lipstick first, smearing the firetruck red colour across her lips.

"Hey," Dallas greeted them both.

Leila's ginger hair fell over her shoulder as she capped the lipstick and turned her head to Dallas. She gave her friend a curious look before laughing. "You seem awfully calm this morning," she noted. "Isn't there anything you have to say for yourself?"

"Yeah," Marilyn hopped in as she twisted her lip to the side, rolling her blending brush across her cheek to blend out her concealer. "We heard about the fight yesterday. Everyone's talking about it."
