*knock* *knock*

"It's time to wake up Your Majesty." A maid calls from outside of her room.

Alarice was forced to wake up. She glanced at the window and saw that it's still dark outside.

She grunted. Argh! This is labor abuse!! She silently scream

Annoyed. She rolls on her bed messing her bedsheets and pillows.

"Your Majesty?" the maid calls once again.

"I'm up! Give me a cup of coffee and ready my clothes, please."

For the past few weeks her routine was to wake up at five in the morning and went to bed at eleven. She doesn't even remember how she changed her clothes to night gown. These were the times when she was really thankful to her hands on maids.

After a few knocks, five maids come in holding a cup of coffee and her usual oversized shirt and pants.

"Thank you." She said as the maids get her ready for the day.

"I know it's been hard on Her Majesty but please endure it for another week."  the head maid gently told her.

She holds a great influence in the inner palace as she was the nanny of the current emperor and the mother of the grand duke of the empire.  Constance Dianna Malira

"Not like I have a choice." she said with a tired tone. "Is the Emperor already in the office?"

"He's already heading towards there, Your Majesty." Said of the maid

I sighed. My boss is there. After I got ready I bring my coffee and head towards the office.

In the first years, the Empress and the Emperor's office are separate. However, I constantly need the approval and seal of the Emperor for a lot of projects that I proposed that's why we both decided to move the Empress' office in the Emperor's.

"Greetings, Your Majesty." One of the royal knights said

"You're looking great today." The other said.

I look at them questioningly. I haven't even brushed my hair yet.

"I don't have money to pay you for your forced compliments."  I asked bored.

The knights just chuckled at my joke. I just proceed to knock on the door.

"It's me." I said

"Come in." The voice inside said.

The knights open the door and a beautiful man with golden blonde hair and dazzling blue eyes.

"Greetings to the great sun where the light shines the brightest." I lazily said while walking towards my table.

"You know it's rude to greet the great Emperor like that." He said without even taking away his eyes from the paper works he's doing.

I pause for a second and then

"Who cares. It's just you and me anyway." I said while fixing my desk.

We started our paper works without bothering one another. This was our usual day.

Honestly, they are more like a coworkers than husband and wife. Of course except for the nights when it's her turn to serve him in bed but other than that she was satisfied with her relationship with him.

"How was your work yesterday?" He suddenly asked.

Sharing some chitchats were also nothing new.

"It's horrible. I got off to work at eleven and now I woke up at five. Your Majesty if this continues I'll file for divorce." She said looking at him half joking.

"You know that can't do. We can't have you get away from work." He said nonchalantly.

"THEN GIVE ME A BREAK D*MN IT!" I shouted. And mumbled
"Everyday work work work work. Even though I have a lot of money I can't even use all of them as I was always glued at work. Coffee won't even cut it anymore and my back hurts really bad from just sitting here in the chair and my butt was as if it was glued down here--"

The Emperor sighed with the Empress rants and mumbles.

"Just bear with it for a while. The festival is coming soon anyway."

"NO! I can no longer take it!" She said as she open a drawer and pull out a paper. She went towards the front of his table and almost slammed the paper in his face.

"Sign this divorce papers now." She said threateningly.

The emperor just looked at her lazily. For the past 4 years the Empress did not once ask for divorce but a lot of times, if they are drowning from paper works. This is all just a whim.

On the back of the nagging Empress was their aide sneakingly and not minding the scene even though the Empress is blatantly disrespecting the Emperor. After all they are used to it.

From the outsiders' perspective, their relationship is complicated. The Empress was a perfect fit for the role. She was pretty, from a prestigious family, diligent, witty and most of all someone who can contain the Emperor. The Emperor on the other hand, indulges the Empress' whims. They are not sure if that can be called love but they know that she was special for their ruler.

One of the reason the Emperor didn't really mind the Empress' choice of clothes is because of his possessiveness. He wants to be the only one who knew how beautiful his woman is.

Everyone knows it's their Emperor's possessiveness. After all only him can see her true beauty as they are sharing a bed during the designated nights. However, he's not pushing their relationship through. He never showed openly how she cares for the Empress.

In fact, the nobility who was not in the palace knows how the Empress Consort Qashanna was the love of his life.

It's really complicated.

"Empress, are you like this because you were jealous that I spend the night with the Empress Consort." He said teasingly.

Of course he knows it's not the case. After all she never showed interest in him. Even on their first night, what she talked about was work and how to make the Empire prosper. Sometimes it feels like it is the Empire that the Empress Regnant marry which give him unpleasant feelings.

Her angry face turned to disgust. Ah. How he finds every of her expressions cute.

"Did you hit your head somewhere?" She said in disdain as the divorce paper in her hands slipped.

"Absolutely not. If you really are not jealous then why are you asking for divorce? Don't worry My Empress Regnant I'll make sure to give you a special service and visit your quarters tonight." He said half jokingly. It's been a while since she served him at night.

Alarice felt chill on her spine. She took a step back.

"I apologize Your Majesty but I can't serve you tonight as I need to finish these paper works." She said as she bowed politely. The Emperor smiled dangerously.

"That's too bad Ally. I was even looking forward to it." He said while still looking beautiful with a dangerous smile.

She quickly got back to her table and starts working once again.

The Emperor looking at the divorce paper at the floor and burn it with magic. Though he was use to this kind of whims, he still feels very unpleasant whenever he's looking at the divorce paper.

You can never get away from me, My Empress.

He almost mumbled.
