Before Club Monaco became the high-priced and sleek store it is now, and before they were bought by Ralph Lauren, they were the store in the mall where every cool 8th grader went to buy their classic oversized sweatshirts and drawstring backpacks. They also had the most amazing makeup line ever.
I definitely just set up an ebay alert for one of these sweatshirts
It was all minimalist, neutral makeup with "edgy" 90's names like eye "grease" (cream eyeshadows) in colours like sludge, acid, and slick. The packaging was all gorgeous brushed metal lipstick tubes and frosted plastic eyeshadow cubes.
To this day, I still search for the perfect dupe to the colour I wore all through high school: Club Monaco Glaze. It was the perfect 90's plum/brown/pink combo and it was sheer enough to put it on without a mirror and worry too much about the application. And hilariously, it has an extremely famous backstory I had no idea about until I google image searched for a picture of the lipstick to share in this post. It was the same lipstick Monica Lewinsky wore in her famous Barbara Walters interview.
Basically, my perfect lipstick colour.
There are actually some old tubes floating around on ebay and kijiji, but they're probably all waxy and have that old-lipstick smell by now. I'll keep my fingers crossed that this recent 90's fashion revival will convince Club Monaco to bring back their makeup line.
Do you have any favorite products that have been discontinued? Can you make my day by offering a good dupe suggestion for Glaze?
