This week, a bunch of us in the office held a surprise Beyoncé-Ginuwine-EggplantEmoji-90'sPop themed baby shower for the amazing zoedinovi. To keep it a surprise while emily put up all the decorations, thejennyfromtheblock and I took one for the team - doing the hard work of taking Zoe out for a mani and pedi while the guests arrived to keep it a surprise.
Before we even arrived, I knew what colour I was going to get. Essie Clambake. It's my favourite nail polish colour ever. It's a bright orange-red that just feels very summery and punch-y. The colour is bold and bright but just a little bit sheer to still show a hint of the nail line underneath and makes every skintone look just a little more tan. I'd say of all the times I've done my nails in the last 3 years I've used Clambake about 95% of the time, and almost every salon that carries Essie has it.
But then I got there and they didn't have it. And I was a total baby about it. First I tried to do some not-so-subtle recon to see if one of the clients already seated getting their manicures was using Clambake. Then I just kept spinning the stands to see if it was possible to miss it. Then I started looking for comps, testing them on my fingers but they were all too red, too orange, or too streaky. Nothing was as good as Clambake

Zoe, getting practise dealing with babies, nicely told me to get over it and pick something else. And when I looked back at the rack, Pool Party stood out to me. It was just about the brightest polish on the stand, and that I'd ever seen. It's not quite neon pink, not quite neon orange. More of a neon coral. It's the shade the the popular girl's bathing suit would be in an 80's movie set on a Miami beach. It's so bright it's distracting, it's so loud it's hard to plan what to wear with it, and becomes difficult to do even type without being distracted by your fingers. It's the perfect fun summer nail colour.

I'm still madly in love with Clambake, but now I'll maybe only use it 50% of the time as I'm on the search for a new bottle of Pool Party of my own for the summer.
