                                                                     88.

There was a slight sting to the back of my head as I left the cab and walked into the hospital, my stomach churning with anticipation and hands sweating for the same reason. My thoughts were pacing back and forth between the worry of leaving Harry on his birthday and Tyler alone at a hospital bed for God-knows the reason.

I couldn’t quite focus on only one of those, so it felt as if my head was literally throbbing at this point. I could actually feel the pulsing veins inside my brain, not only bothering me but also giving me a hell of a headache; as if the fear and guilt I was feeling inside already weren’t just enough.

Luckily – or unluckily, depending on the point of view – this was not the hospital Lana worked at, therefore I didn’t have to worry about bumping into her whilst walking down the hallways, fearing being caught and having to listen to reproachful speeches about how I should’ve left Tyler completely on his own, especially considering it was Harry’s birthday (yes, she knew, don’t ask me how) and I oughtn’t leave my boyfriend to enjoy his evening without my company.

The thought brought back the guilt that was paining my chest. I knew I shouldn’t’ve left, is the thing. And taking into consideration what Harry’s mother had told him about me, I was only proving her point, somehow. See, is not that I meant to eavesdrop into their conversation, but I was on my way to the kitchen to let him know I would have to leave, and. It happened. I only realized there was someone else with him when he yelled at her something about it not being a childish love, and whatever else came next.

I should have left them, given them their privacy, but I really needed to talk to Harry if I wanted to still have him the next morning. Because I knew he would be beyond pissed off and disappointed if I had left him with no explanation; and even more furious later when he found out I had left him because of Tyler. And I liked him way too much to risk this at this point, after all we’d been through. After all he’d been through for me.

Pushing the thought aside, I walked down to the counter where a woman stood in front of a computer, typing something distractively until she noticed my presence and peered up, a not-so-welcoming expression showing off. I couldn’t blame her; the place was a chaos, and it was probably like that twenty-four seven, because it was a damn hospital, so.

“May I help you?” she asked as I said nothing, bashing her eyelashes in what appeared to be boredom.

“Yes, actually. I’m here to see Tyler Hollins?” I questioned, watching as her expression remained the same, typing something into the computer again and scrutinizing the screen.

“Only family is allowed inside. You are?”

I took a sharp breath, nibbling on my bottom lip. “I live with him,” I said instead of announcing myself as his girlfriend, which would be a bit worse of a lie. “The guy that brought him here, Zachary Owen, called me and he’s waiting for me. Said Tyler wanted to see me,” maybe it was useless information, but I spit it out anyway.

After a few more suspicious glances between the screen and I, she nodded shortly, gave me a ‘visitor’ tag and wrote something down. “He’s in room 257, 2nd floor,” she said at the same time as handing me the small paper with that information written down in cursive letters. “The elevator is just there,” she then pointed to a crowded hallway, to which I nodded.

“Thank you.”

She didn’t say anything after that, and I fell into hurried steps to said hallway, pushing past a few people and pressing the button several times, as if I could make the lift come down faster by doing so. It took a few seconds of impatiently tapping my foot on the floor before the doors finally opened with an annoying sound, a couple and a man walking past me before I could finally step in along with some other people.
