Apologize

I am sick and tired of being asked, indirectly, to apologize.

I am not going to apologize for never having to catch the bus,

Or for having a nice car,

Or for having a laptop, a tablet and a phone.

I am not going to apologize for living in a nice house,

Or that I have a pool,

Or that my living room belongs in a catalogue.

I will not apologize for speaking the way I do,

For going to a private school,

Or for just sounding different than you would expect.

I refuse to apologize for the upbringing I've had,

So stop asking me to.

I am not going to apologize for being intelligent,

For sleeping in class,

Or for trying for a scholarship when you think my parents can afford university anyway.

I am refuse to apologize for aiming for perfection,

And settling for excellence.

Because that is a phrase which will carry me through life.

I am who I am,

And I will not apologize for that.
