Trauma...is a funny thing.

It's like a parasite residing in the deepest recesses of your brain where you hide the things you want to forget.
But it thrives on those memories,
Latches on to specific ones,
And brings them to the forefront of your mind at the worst times;
Blanketing your thoughts in fear and uncertainty.

But then,
It seems to disappear.

Days since the accident.
Weeks. Months. Nothing.
It's gone.
You're over it.
You've moved on...
Or so you thought.

Little did you know that the parasite was still there,
Lurking in the shadows,
Just waiting for a trigger,
To send you spiraling into the abyss once again.

You were never really okay,
Never really confident or unafraid,
It was just a carefully crafted façade...
That you now have to work to rebuild.
