The wolves surrounded the Cullen house, getting ready for a fight. The wolves were prepared - or as prepared as they could possibly be. They couldn't even rely on Iris's happiness to give them a boost of energy. Lately, Iris wasn't happy. She was this small, fragile person. She didn't want to think about her family, so hearing about the Cullens from the wolves didn't make it better.
Jasper glanced at the wolves. "We're outnumbered."
Alice nodded. "By a lot."
Edward scowled. "I won't let them hurt my family."
Suddenly, the wolves attacked them. The Cullens tried to fight them off, until Jacob jumped into the middle of the fight.
"Stop! It's over! If you kill her, you kill me," Jacob informed.
One of the wolves tried to attack again, and Emmett took a ready stance, but a soft voice stopped the wolf and the vampire.
"Please, stop," Iris whimpered.
She stepped out from a tree, her fists clenching at her side. Small bubbles of tears were forming in the corner of her eyes.
Edward had heard her thoughts, but he didn't inform anyone. He knew she would be able to help the situation. No matter what type of situation, Iris always found a solution.
"Iris," Emmett warned, "don't get closer."
She obviously ignored her brother. She flashed in between the wolf and Emmett. Emmett growled at her, causing the wolf behind her to growl right back.
"Jared," she whispered, "don't encourage them."
"You left us," Rosalie said, "for them."
Iris whimpered once more. "Rose - "
"No. You picked their side."
Iris was saddened by her words. She didn't want to believe them. So once Emmett figured out that Rosalie had set out a distraction for Iris, he charged for Jared, having plans to go around Iris.
But the wolves weren't thinking like him. They thought Emmett was going to hurt Iris. Another wolf leaped in the air to protect Iris, but Jasper saw the movement before the wolf could tackle Emmett.
Jasper flashed forward and threw the wolf into a tree trunk. Iris gasped, immediately pushing away Jared from Emmett.
"Embry!" Iris shouted. "Oh - God, no, no, no."
She ran to him, gently grazing her hands over his broken bones. He let out a whine, ears flattening over. Iris sniffled, resting her head against his larger head.
"You idiot," she whispered.
The wolves growled at the Cullens, stepping forward to attack.
"Jacob imprinted," Edward said, stopping their future attack. "They can't hurt her. Whoever a wolf imprints on can't be harmed. It's their most absolute law."
