While many of his guildmates might consider Azuma to be a strange, twisted, individual who was oblivious to the opposite sex, the man himself simply knew what exactly what he desired in life. He wished to see the true depths of his power, to learn everything he could about the Great Tree Arc. He desired The World of Great Magic, as such a world was bound to contain powerful adversaries to battle against. But there had never been a time in his life that had really been interested in the opposite sex. They were weak, cowardly, and generally beneath him, and no opponent he had ever faced had done anything to prove him wrong.

But as he stared into the center of the maelstrom of ethernano before him, he couldn't help but be entranced by the woman before him.

If any of his guildmates were to happen upon their battle, they would think he was mere moments from victory. The blonde mage that was now serving as his opponent was covered in blood from a multitude of both deep and shallow wounds, bruises of all shapes and sizes, and was simply so injured that there was very little unblemished skin showing on the young mage. Her left leg was a mangled mess, looking like it would give out at any moment. Indeed, compared to his few yet not inconsequential injuries he too would judge himself as the soon to be victor.

Yet as he gazed into the fury filled eyes of the Heartfilia's greatest creation his legs trembled inadvertently. His heart began to pump faster and faster. Sweat not related to the heat of the tropical weather began to form on his face.

He was terrified of this mage. And it was that fact that made the young mage beautiful to him.

"Ha...ha, ha...HA, HA, HA, HAH, HA!" Azuma began to laugh as he returned the girls glare with a battle-lust filled gaze of his own, a manic grin inadvertently spreading across his lips. "Yes, this is the power that Master Hades warned us of! This is power yours is beyond anything I've ever felt before, power that would make most men cower in fear. This, this is the battle I have longed for!" The dark mage readied his stance, the magic in his blood practically singing at the thought of the battle to come, the trees around him joining their power to his own. "It has been years since I've felt so alive! Come Subject One, come and save your fre-!"

But his words were lost when, faster than he could even percive, the blonde mage appeared right before him, her claw like fingers scratching at his face and leaving a series of deep gashes across his cheek.

S-so fast! How can she move like this with such an injured...Azuma couldn't help but think in shock as he just barely avoided losing an eye to her claws, his eyes drawn to her leg. But to his immense shock, the mangled limb was completely healed and now covered in strange black lines. The tree mage nearly doing a double take at the shear quantity of magic flowing through the unknown black runes running beneath her skin. Such pure Ethernano...is that what repaired her limb? None of the intelligence gathered on the Heartfilia Institute mentioned anything about a healing ability. Was it the other slayer?...No, she shouldn't be capable of long range healing, this was Subject One's doing...this fight has grown far more complicated. Azuma thought as he directed the various tree roots beneath their feet to come alive and attempt to impale the furious dragon.

However, not a single root was able to touch her skin, as before they could even close the distance the girls hand glowed with pure Ethernano. "Chaos Dragon's Rending Fists!" The young mage roared as her hands became nothing but a blur of motion, shredding the magically enhanced roots with ease before she once again rushed at Azuma, her fists still crackling with pure magic even after her spell had ended.

For the first time in his life, Azuma found himself purely on the defensive as he tried desperately to avoid the inhumanly fast fairy. And even that was more difficult than it should be as it wasn't long before she managed to land a glancing blow and send him flying backwards into a tree. Her speed, her strength, her magical energy, every aspect of her power had grown exponentially. And it was then, as he was sent careening away, that the truth finally dawned on him. Even though the energy she was giving off, Azuma could see the wisps of pure Ethernano being sucked into her mouth as she breathed in. she was feeding off of the magic in her surroundings to boost her own, and considering the amount of mages in the vicinity and the islands own not inconsiderable amount of Ethernano, she had a near endless supply of strength to call upon.
