Chapter 2

~Hermione’s POV~

“Bye Mum, bye Dad.” I said hurriedly. I was agitated, because I was running a little late, I was usually so punctual. “I’ll owl you as often as I can, but it’s going to be a busy year because of the N.E.W.T’s.”

“Have a wonderful time, and tell everyone we said ‘hi’.” Mum replied nodding.

“Will do, love you both loads.” I looked at them, and in that moment I tried to take in every detail about them. I really didn’t want to leave them, I thought I had lost them forever when I ‘oblivated’ their memories of me, but I managed to restore them during the summer. Leaving them was hard, when I had only just got them back. However, I simply thought of the exciting, and hopefully normal, year ahead at Hogwarts with my friends. As I turned on the spot, I heard my Dad shout to me,

“We love you too darling” I waved at them one last time and disapparted.

I arrived at The Burrow to see Ron sat on the coach, eating (as usual). I gave him a fright, because I apparated straight into the house, he nearly choked on his food. He swallowed and greeted me “Hermione!” He pulled me in for a kiss. It turned quite passionate, because I hadn’t seen him in a while, since I had been spending a lot of time with my parents. Ron and I had decided to start dating after the Battle of Hogwarts.

We awkwardly broke apart, as someone coughed in the doorway.

“Thought I’d better stop that before you swallowed each other whole” Harry said laughing. He walked into the room and Ginny followed, they were holding hands. Harry brought me into a hug, I had missed all of them, even though we hadn’t been apart for too long.

“Yeah and I don’t get sick each time I have to watch you and Ginny when you decide to….” Ron shuddered not finishing his sentence.

“Kiss Ron, we kiss, because we are together, okay.” Ginny said as though she was talking to a baby. I giggled at them, I had missed this so much, I hadn’t realised just how much.

Before Ron could respond, Harry interrupted “Okay, let’s go, before we miss the train, its 10:40 already.” We grabbed our things and huddled together, holding hands, and apparated to Kings Cross.

One by one we walked through the barrier that separated 93/4 from the rest of the Kings Cross platforms. Once on the other side, I grabbed Ron’s hand and looked around. It was hard to see through the steam from the train, but once my eyes adjusted, my eyes landed on someone. He was strikingly handsome, I didn’t recognise him though; he had soft platinum blonde hair and perfectly chiselled features. As he turned around, we locked eyes, I gasped at the beauty of his glistening blue eyes that seemed to whisk me away from reality completely, forgetting who I was with and where I was.

“What is HE doing here” Ron spat. I snapped back into real life and followed Ron’s gaze, he was looking at the same person I had been staring at moments before. I realised that the person who had spun me into a daydream, was none other than Draco Malfoy. My eyes quickly turned cold, I narrowed my eyes at Malfoy, who was still staring at me. He looked taken aback by my sudden scowl; he didn’t return the glare, as expected, he just looked confused and slightly….. hurt? No Malfoy would never show an emotion as deep as that, I didn’t think he could be capable of feeling something like that. It must have been a trick of the light. I didn’t even want to consider the way in which I was thinking about him before Ron spoke. I was annoyed with myself for becoming so girly and getting lost in his beauty. I had to remember he was the vile person who bullied me when I was younger. But I wouldn’t let someone like Malfoy ruin my year, so I pushed the thought of him to the back my head.

However that didn’t last long, because Harry and Ron would not shut up about the fact Malfoy was coming back, as we found a compartment. When the train set off, I couldn’t take it any longer,

“Just shut up about it, both of you, ignore him, and don’t let him get to you.” I nearly shouted, frustrated. Harry and Ron exchanged a look, but fell silent.

The rest of the journey was quite enjoyable, Neville and Luna joined us in our compartment, holding hands to Ginny’s delight especially. She had squealed excitedly at the two of them, Luna was one of her closest friends and Ginny really loves love, a lot. Ginny hugged them and we congratulated them. After a while, Harry and Ginny started kissing, I felt Ron’s hand tense around mine, so I gave his hand a quick peck to calm him down. He did. I eventually fell to sleep on his shoulder and Ron resting his chin on the top of my head.

Ron shook me awake, I realised the train had stopped. I looked out the window and saw the ever so familiar platform that meant we had to exit the train and get the carriages, pulled by the Thestrals, to take us straight to the castle. I grabbed my trunk and followed everyone out of the compartment, off the train and onto the platform. We got into a carriage, and sat silently, everyone thinking the same thing; this would be the last time we all sat here together, waiting to get out and enter Hogwarts to start a new year, with all of us together.

The carriage lurched to a halt and we all got out in silence and looked up at Hogwarts. It took my breath away, it always did. It looked magnificent, especially lit up so strikingly at night. I was feeling quite emotional that this was our last year; I couldn’t even begin to imagine how Harry felt, it was his home.

I began to walk inside, for the Sorting Ceremony, the last one I would ever see.
